Re: Access to battery terminals? USB outlet wiring & mounting.

It's very difficult to only raise the 'back' end of the tank in order to fiddle with the battery terminals. Yes, battery access on these models is a real no-no, which the firm corrected on the newly-designed 1200cc models from 2013 onwards. Just lift the seat and pull some Tupperware. I did once try...

Re: Seat Options?

In many countries there are specialist bike-seat modifiers working out of small back-street workshops who'll re-shape the standard BMW rider's seat. Like the genial Tony Archer in Huddersfield, Yokk-shurr, who whips off the seat covering with his special de-stapler, where there's usually enough spar...

Re: Burnt Rubber Smell Solved!

The big retailer mototyres in the UK lists no less than sixty different tyres of that size 170 by 60 by ZR17 - all the major EU brands including the well-recommended Shinko from the Far East. Average cost a hundred snoojits. Almost every European patrol bike needs that size for its rear wheel, so no...

Yes, that's right - "Ariete" the Italian manufacturer supplies BMW. But thankfully as a rare exception, not under an exclusive-sale agreement, which the Greedy Berlin Pig is normally so fond of. For example, the fifty-buck Gates Industries textile/metal belt still used on a couple of Beeme...

Re: 2002 R1150R Sputtering

"Tank vent hose plugged (unlikely)" We had a laugh last month in José's palatial moto workshop when he tried all sorts of tricks to unbung a seriously blocked vent hose coming from the filler cap area on Motorcycling Mo's enormous year-04 1150 GS Adventure. José even had the idea of clamp...

Re: 2002 R1150R Sputtering

If it IS a fuel-supply issue, gregor, I've found in the past that the tank-off, unscrew pump unit plate, etc. job isn't all that depressing to contemplate. The little U-shaped rubber tube is easy to replace along with a new filter and maybe a new pump. And remember those submersed rubber tubes and c...

Re: Purchased 2004 R1150R yesterday, suggestions neeed

One of my sons years ago decided to help out his girlfriend of the time by topping-up her car's brake fluid. Only he put the DOT4 in the screen-wash bottle. When she found out she kicked him all the way down the driveway. End of a beautiful relationship.

Stick Coil(s) ? Betcha.... Click off the spark-plug covers each side. Carefully use the tool-roll plastic coil-puller to remove the stick coil and make sure that little tool doesn't snap in half while doing so. Mine did on each of three different boxers, so get the elegantly-finished third-party all...

Re: OEM Brake Lines/I need to hear you again please.

Spiegler are great in the USA - here in Europe I use the A3S Performance kit that comes with swivel banjo unions. Turn the angle-of-dangle to whatever suits the layout of your braids best, thus making installation and adjustment a cinch.

Uh - oh.... Sounds like the dreaded iABS failure. But take some condolence from the fact that at least you discovered the real reason for the no-start. With the help of our colleagues on this forum. Re: Heated Grip Question

I fitted a used Roadster bar to my Rockster - dead simple, plus much comfier for the old wrists and elbows - but careful attention is needed to the braided hose feeds to the clutch and front brake levers. To make sure the front brake hose wasn't too tight ( a roadster bar is elevated whilst the stan...

Re: Is this the wire tie to clip?

Hi Photoguy - my old eyes find it hard to make out detail at the top of your picture - it seems a touch on the dark side, but I think I dimly see a zip-tie right by the suspension spring. If so, that's the one that can - on occasions - have been cinched up too tightly by the assembler in Berlin all ...

Re: North to Scotland

Scotland has some of the finest biking roads in Britain. And country roads there don't seem nowadays to be blighted by the criminal lack of maintenance that's characterised English roads throughout the last austerity decade. It's estimated that it'll take ten billion to repair the existing infrastru...

Re: A couple of basic questions about brake pedal adjustments

Yes, there should be a millimetre or two of free play in the pedal's downward movement before it compresses the hydraulic fluid in the master cylinder to lock the rear wheel. As follows : - with the bike on the centre stand, check for free movement of the rear wheel - moving it round by hand. There'...

Re: Battery Drain 2002 R1150RT

Maybe your battery is on its way out. Car batteries like the ones in our bikes are funny beggars. Likely to say goodbye overnight from previously spinning the starter in fine style. Or gently fading away over a period of weeks. Or maybe you have an immobiliser or some kind of Alarm on the bike. Pesk...

Re: Ignition stick coils

Fortunately my bike is a non-ABS, and if these new Beru coils pass away too soon, I could of course consider installing the alternative Ford 3.5 Ute coils remotely in the large empty space hidden beneath the fuel tank where the ABS would be - an area which my middle son Tim, leading the cop-shop veh...
