Re: Tires
As far as I know, the "annual service" will entail oil and filter change, TB check, ? valve check. After looking up the part (steering damper) on the Beemer boneyard page, looked like only 3 attachment points and, I agree, I prob could have done that easily myself. I guess I really shouldn...

Re: Tires
Philbytx, What exactly are the "chicken strips" you reference? May try Contis next change; I ended up going with the Metzlers as they were in stock and I had small window of opportunity to get this done. Am going in next week to get new steering damper installed (see separate thread), brak...

Re: Steering damper removal?
I know I'm a litle late to this party but I just found out today that my steering dampler on my 2000 R1100R is shot; dealer pointed it out while having routine maintenance done. Seriously, I had no idea; on the way home, ~ 60 min ride, I paid strict attention to steering responsiveness intentionally...

Re: Intro and Brake question
Just to chime in on this topic as well as followup on Arbee's post re: the 1100R and ABS. I have a 2000 R1100R which I bought new from a dealership. It does NOT have ABS but ABS was ofered as an option when I made my purchase which I declined. Having never ridden a bike with ABS I cannot comment, wi...

Re: Bars, grips, Throttlemeister--and an intro
I bought a set of Throttlemeister "Cruise Control" bar ends last year from Sierra BMW (a link I picked up on this board) for my R1100R. I based my purchase on two issues: 1) I wanted equivalent of cruise control for long distance riding and 2) my stock bar ends were beginning to rust; Inst...

In the market for a new set; the stock Metzelers lookin' a little slick. Not sure if I want to replace with Metzelers although that is what my dealer is pushing; any recommendations? I hear the name Bridgestone Battlax and Avons quite frequently in motorcycle circles. Mostly local commuting and occa...

R1100R
Thanks to all for the recent "opening" of the R1100R list. Arbee, great introduction and commentary; I sense that you and I feel the same about the R - poetry in motion and more fun than a tornado in a trailer park! I bought one in 2001 and I still love it. The "cauliflower ear" ...

I'm betting he left the choke on. The first thing the dealer told me when I test drove my R bike 6 years ago was to turn the choke off after getting to highway or road. Shortly after I bought my bike, I took it out for a ride on a mild day (prob 60 degrees outside). I forgot and left my choke on and...

I think the 1150 first appeared in calendar year 2001. I bought an R1100R brand new in October 2000 and remember seeing the 1150 about 4 months later and wish I had held off. Not a great fan of the oil radiators sitcking out like a pair of bad ears but, thankfully, have pretty much gotten used to th...
