Re: 2014 R1200R wethead ?

I have no imminent desire to replace my 07 and hope I don't run into any situations where I would *have* to get a new one. That being said, if there will be a H2O RR and it turns out to be of great appeal, then maybe some years after its introduction where initial bugs and snags hopefully got addres...

Re: Removing lock from 28L Top Case

I used the same online instructions but found it finicky to find the release into which to push the 'special tool', mainly because I couldn't see what was going on inside the guts of the case. In my case I had to talk to a few dealerships online and locally until someone was willing to sell me a rek...

Re: I hate early breakfasts - or the $500 breakfast..

I was going to have this wheel fixed but decided to just get a new one. Also replaced the axel and bearings. Holy cow. What kind of a pothole and what speed does one need to damage a rim like that? I've encountered unexpected potholes, but luckily never had damage. I am seriously wondering what the...

He's going to Orange county, and you want to find motorcycle shops or shops for street clothing? You could try posting a short message in Spanish. Some people in CA might speak it enough to at least get the gist.

Re: Completed - 64,000 mile service.

Looks like Amazon shows it as a Gates 91030 Engine Tool . I ordered one to put in the tool box. I just changed my belt and to say it stretched my patience would be putting it mildly. I have to do the one on my Valkyrie so I'll give this a try. Has it arrived, and can you say something about the use...

Your 10/50 covers the 20/50 range at least as far as viscosity is concerned. What was your friend's argument?
Greece will be hot indeed, but crossing the Alps may be chilly even in August.

Re: If you had to choose between Seat or Shock to upgrade

Given my personal YMMV experience I'd say change the seat. I also used to get uncomfortable after 1-2 hours, after 3-4 hours I was in pain, and a better seat changed the enjoyment greatly, even when sitting at a light.

That looks to be the same for the US model, but there still ought to be a sensor to detect you reached reserve level. I can't find a '13 fiche to see what type they employ.

Re: Wilbers suspension change question

One thing with damping adjustments - the HyperPro book that comes with their shocks notes that "less is more.." - they suggest using as little damping as possible and allowing the spring to work in absorbing the bumps. Sounds like good advice to me. The harshness I notice is with abrupt b...

Re: Determining transmission-code letter

I don't know if the previous post and its quoted text answers the question. But, I have emailed Max BMW, and they told me they don't know how to determine the transmission letter. They recommended measuring the plug, then ordering. Trouble is, taking out the plug will drain the oil too. But, taking ...

Re: Wilbers suspension change question

Your shocks are sprung for your weight plus luggage. Is that how you have the bike loaded when you try the shocks? How close to the bumper does the shock travel? It should not only use a fraction of the travel. That would indicate incorrect sag or even a spring that's too stiff. How are your tires /...

Don,
I got the impression from your post further up that said special tool may not be necessary when installing the 611mm belt. Is that a fair assumption, or would you say it's good to have at any rate?

Re: Completed - 64,000 mile service.

Thanks for the writeup. Do you feel one should lube clutch and front shaft splines at this relatively high mileage? I don't know. I still have some miles to get there. Regarding 'Replaced the left side timing chain tensioner': I have the chatter on the right at startup since I got the bike. Last tim...

Good idea to have a magnetic transmission drain plug?

They sell them at Beemerboneyard, among other places, for around $30. Wondering if it's worth it. What I should ask is, do the people who installed one find an accumulation of metallic particles when draining the oil? Last time I changed the transmission oil it seemed to come out completely clear.

Hey Don, Good find, good post, good pictorial, and an easy and quick fix. I may do it just because or when I need to occupy myself. I am currently happy with my idle, but who knows, maybe I just got used to it and there is actually room for improvement. One question: did you check the throttle synch...

That and when it's warmer. The air density is lower in those cases (less molecules per volume), but the optimal mixture ratio stays the same, i.e. less fuel must get injected to hold the ratio. The EFI takes over there.

Re: Worn Tires = Stiff Handling ??

I love to get big miles out of a set of tires, but when I change them out, I always love it, and wonder why I waited so long to get new tires. So true. I don't enjoy changing tires particularly so tend to max out tire life, but the difference in ease of steering and ride smoothness after putting on...

The part number is in the very first post of this thread. It keeps the water out, and I believe without water there will be no rust.
