ABS warning lights tell you anything during or after self test at startup?
Does brake light come on when you put your foot on the pedal? Faulty switch?

That's RT size. I always keep a spare key in my motorcycle jacket. I never ride without my jacket. When you tape it in a hidden place and ride in the rain you run the risk that the tape (or whatever you use) looses grip because of the water.
