Re: How do I Deal With This 5k RPM Idle?
First check that the cables on the throttle bodies are seated. Then all the other ends are seated if that was not the cause, (common cause).

Re: R1150R Starting issues/Brake light flash
Sticks in my Rockster are going on 120K miles still good. I recently bought a spare pair for $100 ea, the upgraded bosh type.

Re: R1150R Starting issues/Brake light flash
I've had my rockster for 15 years and have just rebuilt the starter 'cause of noises that started. You can check the flywheel easily by pulling the timing plug (rubber) on the right side and having a look.

Re: Shinko 705 mileage report
If I'm on a trip I can get at least 7K miles out of a rear 009 Raven running the speeds your talking about w/an occasional blast up to triple digits. (Smooth throttle hand) I think the most I ever got was about 9K miles on a coast to coast trip and they really weren't toast but I don't like to run t...

Re: Installling AirBox
Its a chore but be patient, if you don't have a manual get one, either the BMW disc of a Clymer. It really needs the Air box so my advise is to take the time to do it.

Re: 2004 R1150R Normal oil consumption
My Rockster still not using much or just as important "blowing" oil into the airbox which I drain every oil change. Usually just a drop or two is in there.

Catter? Humm..
Excessive rocker arm float will make noise but more of a knock.
Chatter seems more likely to be chain!

Re: Saddle Bag Ejection
Since '04 and w/280K on my rock I have never lost a bag or had one fail. First of all I limit the weight I carry in a case to 20LB.(and most times I never get to that limit but for very short slow trips will exceed if necessary). As the miles pile up the bags will become lose and that needs to be ad...

Re: Final drive bearings
I thought this was pretty good - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/bmw-r1100s-r1200s-tech-forum/879397-final-drive-bearing-replacement.html Some have used and oven to get the bearing on, freeze for the other part, said bearing just about dropped on, this one does all the rear suspension bearings - htt...

Running on back roads (not freeway) w/hard cases I get on average (I generally run as quick as I think I can get away with) 44 to46 mpg. Running staintune w/no cat, only other mod is the R1200 injectors. If on a trip and loaded heavy (solo) I can w/ no wind and cruising around 80 or so about 46 to 4...

Thanks boxer for those pictures, great! I forgot just how great the roads and people are in WV. Used to have kin in the area but have not been there for a long time. Only in the Alps can you find such curvy roads in good nick. I was there with my first C/O in the Navy flying fighters in VN. I take a...

Re: Skid Plate
Been up the haul road all the way.... no skid plate, lots of mud..a mess... but no damage.
Skid plate for heavy rocky trails w/quick speed. Makes changing the oil a pain, not sure its worth the trouble for a road.
Good luck..

Re: U shaped fitment on forward exhaust attachment bar
There is nothing on that side that requires a cable or wire. Just the exhaust. And it's only one of four straps and only meant to keep strap down in place, not lift the bike. With all due respect... I have crossed the Pacific ocean 4 times on an aircraft carrier and have experienced heaves near 1 G...

Re: U shaped fitment on forward exhaust attachment bar
That is possible as well!!! All cars coming to the States from manufacturers have U on the underside of the car for tying down/securing on ships and trucks... But it seems to me was ment for some kind of cable/wiring run??? The reason is that wire attachment is pretty puny to secure a 500+ lb moto.???

I removed on once in a slight mishap in the bush! Was glue from the factory.
Glued it back on.
Maybe a little WD40 soak for a bit and some heat might take one off!

Re: U shaped fitment on forward exhaust attachment bar
Know what, that seems like the best answer that I have heard 'cause it being only on one side and its position/shape, its makes perfect sense it was used as a cable run eye...
Mystery solved...maybe.
Its got my vote.

Re: U shaped fitment on forward exhaust attachment bar
I don't have pics..somebody??
Its a wire sized loop maybe 3/8" dia.. sorta triangler shaped.
Its on the left side attached to the frame tube that holds the passenger pegs.
I could be wrong about what our poster is talking about, but it is on my '04 Rock.
