Re: Engine guards for the Rock! Which to buy

Just backing up Lion Lady's take here: the OE Plastic guards do a better than expected job of protecting the heads. I tipped over my Rockster a couple times, and even had a 30 mph slide out another time. The road ground through the guard and nicked the valve covers a bit. If I was going any faster t...

Re: My biker started to misfire today - another coil fail ca

Howdy, When I suspected one of my coils failed, I too tried to test its resistance against a new one. Couldn't find any difference between the two, nor could I find any info on what they should read. Maybe your Google-fu is stronger than mine. My memory of testing the coils was to remove the seconda...

Re: cruise control

I had one on an FJR I owned for a bit. It was pretty clever actually, I liked it. It didn't hold the speed very well, but that was fine by me. I only wanted a few seconds at a time to rest my right hand or needed it to take care of some transient, lowly issue on the bike. Don't see why it wouldn't w...

Re: Hard starting, not starting and everything in between

It does sound like coils to me. There's no "intelligence" that I am aware of in the motor to switch sides if the other isn't sparking. It just keeps trying to go forward, and as you are seeing, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. The part number changed at some point, I believe becaus...

Re: Bought a Rockster LEMON with 1400 miles TODAY from Ride

Welcome, and sorry for the trouble. My personal advice is to contact the dealer and *gently* explain the situation. Giving them the benefit of the doubt may work out to your advantage. If they're not receptive, turn up the "volume." Good luck, hope they do right by you.

This might have been it. After you dried everything out, did you still have problems? I didn't see this part in your original post.

Wayne, are you still selling your bike? If so, you should let the young chap here know about that. Wayne's a good guy and keeps his stuff in tip top shape. Lots of others here will vouch for him as well.

Re: Should I pull the trigger?

Thanks for sharing your experience. The dealer showed me a little booklet and the previous owner had no records of any maintenance in it, which does nothing to minimize my anxiety. Howard I'd walk away from this particular R. If the little empty booklet is the only record of maintenance, then you a...

Re: Rockster Will Crank But Not Start

How do you know you have spark? Did you pull the plug wires and use a tester?

You can also confirm that fuel is coming out of the tank by pulling the injector, aiming it in a plastic cup or something and cranking it over.

That's all I can contribute... for now.

No worries, the spammer will be gone soon. Congrats on the "gray" market Rockster. LOLz! I crack myself up sometimes. Kidding aside, that bike is a real head turner, congrats! Rarer on this side of the pond than even the 2006 R1150GSA. Keep it in good shape, a potential collector's item in...

Am feeling too lazy to do any editing, so here's the whole schmear. Warning: a few shots are of questionable taste, nothing overtly NSFW though. htt...

Re: Beakster Bash VIII - May 12-14, 2011 - Milford, Pa

Well I mucked it up real good this time. I dawdled and now must pay the price for not writing the dates down on The Calendar. Dammit. All is not lost, but the schedule is definitely reduced for me. Current plan is to ride on Friday, then head home. Then carousing Saturday evening, if a room i...

I hear you Raven. I suffered with GS envy for a very long time. Then BMW puts out the Triple Black, and I could no longer resist... Anyway, back to your question. Re: The joy of doing it yourself...not.

You probably already did this but... when I "helped" during my shadetree tire change, the man in charge left the core out of the valve stem while popping the beads. The airflow is much better. You'll lose some air putting the core back in but it seemed to make sense. Hope that helped you f...

Re: Beakster Bash VIII - May 12-14, 2011 - Milford, Pa

Not having seen Doc's post, I went ahead and did a little reconnoitering on my own. The purpose? Certainly not to second guess the Bash Master, the man knows what he's doing. No, I needed to see if my half baked plan to day trip it up to Bash Central would make sense. And the only way to do it, was ...

Farewell but not goodbye

Another member has been tempted by the siren song of new technology. My first "real" bike has been traded in. My Rockster provided 38,000+ miles of relatively trouble-free operation. I learned much about wrenching and riding. And had a great time hanging out here on the R boards, really en...
