Is it my bum, or is it the seat?

Riding over from Fort Lauderdale to Fort Myers for service on Saturday (160 mi one way), I again realised how uncomfortable I am with the stock seat. I currently have wooden beads on it, but they don't help me that much. Perhaps my bum is just plain weird (6.1, 200 lbs/183 cm, 92 kg) I'm not in the ...

Update to Sputtering

The problem is solved, the bike had leaky ignition coils. BMW of Fort Myers, FL, replaced them (under warranty, yeah), checked throttlebodies and valves (all fine they said), and I'm happy to report she's back to normal. Needless to say, I didn't leave the shop without some financial damage - I was ...

Could be that your valves are in need of adjustment and the throttle bodies out of synchronization as well... Done the valve adjustment (both the intake and exhaust valves were loose) and synch the throttle bodies and how she purrs like a happy cat and I can definitely tell a big difference in acce...

The reasons could be many. You just had the 12k service done by a shop, or did you do it yourself? Your using premium grade petrol or 87? Did the problem start at the same time as the 12k service? Jim, - service was done by a shop (441 BMW in Fort Lauderdale, FL) - always use premium petrol - that'...

Sputtering, uneven power delivery

My R* has since approx. 4-6 months slowly developed some problems I can't nail: - it runs lumpy in idle and in slow rpms up to approx. 2,500rpm - it backfires on downshifts and sometimes also upshifts - when opening the throttle wide in any gear, it delivers power unevenly and even hesitantly, with ...

Sport Screen

Summary: for looks the flyscreen, for wind-protection the biggest monster you can safely mount. Details: I used the flyscreen, which eliminates pressure on the chest, read I get full blast on the beginning of the neck (I'm 6'1 or 183cm) My bike came with the Touring screen, of which I don't like the...

K-mirrors: excellent

Al,

I found mine used (the oval black plastic, single "split" stem) and love them. Much better field of vision, and curiously enough, somewhat less vibration. I did have to dremel the left stem a bit though.

Recommended accessory!

Cheers,
-tobias.

FL-NC-WV ride questions

My girlfriend’s father lives in WV, and it sounds like I won a visit with dad (nice fella) this autumn. So I think: why fly when I can ride? It would mean (about 2200 mi roundtrip) from Fort Lauderdale, FL, to Elkins, WV, via Winston Salem, NC, where I have relatives I'd love to see. I'm wond...

Herb, would singing to you in Bavarian help?

That would be me singing, btw.

On second thought, better not. You may want to stay in the hospital just so you don't have to hear me.

Getter better quickly, and hopefully you'll be fine and sitting on a bike again quickly.

Memorial Day in the Alps

Memorial Day Greetings from Munich/Bavaria! (that would be south of Germany, I believe.) Reason I'm here: my mom lives south of Munich and has a health problem, so I had to make an impromptu trip from Fla to Munich last week. I had the best intentions to ride a BMW while being here. I checked with B...
