Re: New House and Garage

You guys are so fancy...

All you really need are three things: a hammer, vise-grips, and duct-tape.

No, they can't have a support vehicle. But, they can get help with repairs and such. Here's a rule book from 10 years ago.

Re: Part question

If I remember right, he did some cutting as well as painting on that buell screen. I have no idea how he mounted it. I have the fly screen (or "speedster" screen) that Boxer mentioned. It's a little different, and a little bigger. I painted the underside black (copied from Vann). And used ...

Re: Clutch slipped 3- 4 times

Yep, it is usually just zip tied to the frame member behind the helmet hook. There's no reason to move it, unless you feel like it.

Yeah, what he said... it is usually behind the helmet hook/seat lock.

Re: Stick Coil Diagnoses

Well done... Good diagnosis and fix... How many miles does your bike have? And for anybody else with stick coil failure, how many miles when you replaced them? My reason for asking is that, sometimes , my bike is feeling excessively vibey lately. Sometimes at RPM's when it is usually smooth (3500). ...

Re: Clutch slipped 3- 4 times

or maybe IB has an answer? Sorry, I really don't know... I did a spline inspection/lube job, but did not actually disassemble the clutch housing. The scrapes are on the side of the disc that faces the engine (not transmission side). My only guess is that it rubbed against the diaphragm spring... bu...

Re: Running rough

A couple quick ideas... Where the throttle bodies mount to the cylinder, sometimes an air leak can develop. If you spray some carb cleaner around in that area, you might here a change in sound as it sucks in the fluid, and fills the leak. Or maybe the hoses where you hook up the device to do the TBS...

Re: Clutch slipped 3- 4 times

It's good to see another bike with healthy guts.

I think the tech was talking about the circular wear (in the last two pictures) that are worn on all of the rivets....

The red arrows point to the wear on a some of the rivets.

Re: Retie?

I never retied mine either. I didn't see any real need to, either. They've been that way for 6 years or so (with no problems).

But, you should do whatever you think is best (I don't want any blame if something goes wrong... ;) ).

Re: Bike cut out

Idle sounds good... and it was plenty warm... and I assume the antifreeze was fresh... I would guess that it was something electrical. It might have been ignition/spark related, or something else in the electrical system of the bike. That is just based on experience, nothing specific to your bike or...

Re: Clutch slipped 3- 4 times

Another idea is the bushing on the drive shaft (the drive shaft between the transmission and final drive, with the u-joints on the ends) might be slipping a bit. I've seen that on ADVrider a time or two.

Re: Clutch slipped 3- 4 times

Agreed with Rich, the clutch should not be temporarily overpowered by the engine. A temporary leak due to flushing is unlikely. Simple advice first... Do you have handguards (or something else) that might prohibit the clutch lever from returning to its normal position, completely? With as many miles...

I post this picture regularly, for the benefit of people new to the bike, or this site. (credit cyclerob) A great many people have had electrical difficulties because of these zip-ties. Your problem might be right at the points under the zip-ties. The zip-ties put way too much stress on the harnesse...

Re: Motorcycle Travel Network and Iowa

The Iowa tourism board tries to keep a low profile, we really don't like toursits. All locals are required to sign a pledge, to help keep tourists away. But, I'll risk it and give you a little peek of what your missing, jb44 (sorry that I was shirtless this morning). http://i102.photobucket.com/albu...
