Re: Low idle RPM and engine cuts off when revving too gently

The idle for these bikes is recommended to be 1100. So you're just about at "stall speed" where you are now. If you're doing the 36K yourself, poke around teh interwebz for throttle body synchronization instructions. The Big Brass Air Screws sound like they need to be let out a little bit....

The finish is maybe a little flatter than the BMW cases. I am going to guess that the capacity is 25 liters. It fits a large full face helmet, and not much else.

Re: BMW System Cases AND BMW Topcase?

Here's what I got http://www.jcwhitney.com/travel-trunk/p2002510.jcwx The mounting plate came with it. $80, but sometimes you can get them on pretty decent sales. I read on some other forum that Sears is selling even cheaper ones. I dunno, a knock-off of a knock-off? Anyway, the JC whitney's...

Re: BMW System Cases AND BMW Topcase?

Nah! The cheap solution is a $10 cutting board and a $50 top case from JC whitney. Re: Mirrors...

Folks around here buy the K-bike RS mirrors (forget the model number). The next step is to take the left one and "dry fit" it on the handlebar area, getting an idea of how much "meat" has to be taken out for the High Idle lever to work properly. Silver magic marker or some such i...

If you have ABS, yes, the front lever engages both front and rear. The rear lever, however, only engages the rear - what they call "partial integration". Beemerboneyard.com sells used BMW parts, so they may have what you're looking for. Also troll ebay from time to time. Good luck, hope yo...

Re: Leaking Oil Filler Cap

Lots of cheap sources for the R1150R manual. I got mine on ebay, after a couple tries. Don't ask. If you poke around the interwebz, you can find it for free sometimes. The manual is good for looking up stuff like this, but it's not very good (imo) in leading you through any kind of procedure, such a...

Yuck. Let's hope it's just the bolts need to be retorqued. I am guessing they're M8s, so by the picture below, that's 20nm. I am hoping it's not "clean, degrease and apply 3-bond". #-o Good luck! http://lh6.ggpht.com/_HgxEQJE8K88/TA20lQBH5zI/AAAAAAAAEaA/GF_OrieZYK4/s800/6-7-2010%2011-07-27...

Re: Starts intermittently won't run

.it took a long time to start.. Battery is my first guess. Bad stick coils can also result in this behavior. But... You should probably provide a bit more background on your ride: year, miles ridden, any recent work, etc. Further searching on this site may reveal an answer as well. Let us know what...

Re: Today at the Harriman Bash

One thing every biker has to learn, either the easy way or the hard way, is to always be aware of the road surface. Learned it the hard way, last September. Hopefully my only lesson. Glad it was a good bash all around. Wish I could've been there. Even had I made plans, work would have dashed...

Very jealous, wish I could join you. But, critical CLM-like things happening at work this week, so it was very likely I was going to have to bow out anyway.

Anyway, ride safe and have a lot of fun! Can't wait for the ride report!

Re: Leaking gas....

When you replace the QD's, or even disconnect to remove the tank, the little o-rings can cause a problem too. Mine did this week. Hard to believe such a tiny little thing could cause a problem. A minute little chunk of that o-ring was picked off somehow, and it caused a leak. Not a gusher, but a not...

Re: Timesert installation

Thanks for the walkthrough on the timesert. Probably the best one I've seen, and I'm sure one of these will be in my future.

Question: I noticed tiny shavings on the valve gear. Are you going to do an early oil change? Or are they too small to worry about?

Re: rockster or roadster

Those are the plastic ones right? Sounds like they did their job, they're good for low speed mistakes, such as you described. I wouldn't worry too much. Just make sure the maintenance is accounted for. Low miles means it was sitting around a lot, be sure the fluids were changed, etc. etc. Good luck,...

Fun with luggage racks, plus a mini gear review

Did you know the luggage racks are attached with locktite? I didn't. But I do now, after reading the service manual. Did you know that BMW decided to use different sized Torx bolts for the front and the rear of the rack? I didn't. And had I read this thread , I would've known that before I started t...
