Re: Filing DOT complaints regarding the fuel strip

Here is an old school solution. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/bb/Petcock_1978_yamaha_xs400.JPG I very much remember those days ... However nowadays we tend to rely on the electronic gadgets and if these don't work as they should we complain. In the "good old days" we used to ...

Re: R1250R

Karamazov is right. The first one has the tail + fuel reservoir of the K1200/K1300, the oil cooler under the vents taken from the R1150R and the fork from the R1200S. The second one has indeed many elements of the S1000RR .... From the style aspect I prefer the second one ... My personal opinion. Bu...

The gearboxes of the pre-facelift models were known to fail in greater numbers ... Maybe that is what is announcing itself here?

Re: Filing DOT complaints regarding the fuel strip

Ethanol is indeed used here in Europe. But with a max of 5%. In 2011 Germany tried to raise this to 10% and forced the industry to produce fuel with 10% ethanol. However there was much doubt over E10 may causing engine problems and secondly the fuel efficiency of E10 turned out to be slightly less (...

Re: Advice needed Please!

If there are no oldish fluids in the engine/gearbox/finaldrive then I'd say just leave her alone. Make sure the bike is not stored in a humid place and use old bedsheet as cover ... Keep the battery on a charger (or remove and store in the cellar). Cover the exhaust opening and the air intake to avo...

That behavior is not normal and as indicated before I'd get the front shock inspected.

Re: throttle cable lube - at the splitter?

Don't lube the throttle cable/s! If you want to lube something it would be the throttle grip (use non-sticking silicone spay).

Re: Filing DOT complaints regarding the fuel strip

John (and others), first of all let me point out that I am not affiliated to BMW in any way. I have read all your posts and arguments and it seems to me this is a problem related to North America (and maybe some other parts of the world - except Europe) for whatever reason. I am active in a couple o...

Re: Deer by the road...Why?

In our area (Taunus mountain area) we have a lot of deer and wild boar and every year we had bad accidents on some mainroads. Problem is that there are no predators around hence hunting is the only way to keep the population low. As a result some main roads have been fenced to keep these beasts away...

Re: Gauge Cluster

Checked my spare parts in Aladins cave ... The only thing I still have is the telltale harness. If you need it I would ask for 15 USD + shipping (would fit in a letter pouch).

Re: Filing DOT complaints regarding the fuel strip

Hello John, what is your intention if I may ask? That a manufacturer should be forced to call back a product for every little flaw discovered? I do not think there is a problem with the low fuel warning. It appears that the same is working well (although not very precise) on 1000s if not 10000s of B...

Re: Tom Tom Rider

Bob, please read my previous posts. Your TomTom active mount will not shut down when you switch off your bike. And consequently will drain your battery until empty!

I gave you the solutions/workaround. No need to repeat myself.

Re: Tom Tom Rider

Do you refer to this plug on your BMW? http://img455.imageshack.us/img455/307/zwischenablage01gu6.jpg At least that is the one found on my R1200S and a multitude of other BMW models. If yes, pin 1 = -, Pin 2 = signal wire (of no use for TomTom or Garmin or other aftermarket devices), Pin 3 = + The p...

No idea if the headlight differs as well. Suggest you try once you have all the pieces together. Besides the instruments/gauges what you need is part 1/2 and 3 seen in the below pic: http://realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/l/j/14.png And for holding the lamp you'll need part 13 left/right as seen in below p...

Re: Front Shock Mounting Torques?

Welcome ... Inside the PDF there are some useful pics. You can see that groove on top of the frame. With regards to the lower mounting-point yes the strut should be able to slightly rotate around that distance tube. But only slightly. The a-arm moving up and down causes this slight rotation of the f...

Re: R1250R

Folks, back here in Germany we already have the aircooled R1400 (big bore kit with modified piston rods and pistons). That toy has around 145 HP and over 150 NM. I would never buy the new watercooled bike unless it has been on the market for at least a year. And even then I am not sure becaus...

Re: Front Shock Mounting Torques?

Suggest you get yourself this doc: http://www.advrider.com/Wisdom/GSOIAv1.2.pdf The torques are correct. On the top you have 2 rubber thingies, one under the frame (which squeezes a little into the big hole inside the frame) and one on top of the frame under the nut (that one fits into a groove in t...

Re: R1200R Metisse

I'm pretty sure that custom bike is from Germany and they have some strict rules about exhaust systems. And they don't look the other way if you bend the rules. Over here it could have a nice straight through fishtail and set off car alarms as you rode by. :D How right you are! Bike is from Gemany ...
