Re: Rear Drive Pinion seal

Actually just casting bread upon the water trying to find someone that actually took that seal out. Right now it's just a seep that I could live with, but if it's possible to do without removing that nut I'd give it a go. If you remove that nut things get really serious in a hurry. That cup is torqu...

Rear Drive Pinion seal

Has anyone replaced the pinion seal on the rear drive ? Mine has a seep (not a leak) but I'd like to change it if it's not a big deal. Fly in the ointment is, a strange way of holding the seal in that requires a special tool that cost $145, so I need a way around that. #3 is the seal #1 is the 'cup'...

Re: Third fuel strip in 600 miles

Well -- after ten years and 130,000 miles the fuel gauge gremlin finally showed its ugly head in my gas tank. At the start of a Veterans day ride I noted that the tank showed full but the odometer showed 125 miles. I don't use the Beemer around town so it was a few weeks had passed since it was out....

Re: oil cooler plastic cover

I agree with Mr. Newport. I think they spent some time designing the air flow thru the oil cooler. I've read that some people noticed a difference when they removed the plastic scoops (?) on the lower forks. It amazes me how the cooler doesn't get clogged with stuff when you abuse the bike on a nast...

Re: Lighting Upgrade Question

I think I used a posi-tap inside the headlight shell. It should be easy to sneak one wire in with the rest of them where they enter the rear of the shell. Seeing as your only using LEDs in two lights you may be able to power them with the wire from the small lamp without using a relay. Would make th...

Re: Lighting Upgrade Question

I connected to the small lamp inside the headlight shell. I'm using that 12V to power two relays that operate my driving/fog lamps. I'm only using that connection to power the relays, the voltage for the lamps comes from another source (aftermarket fuse block) and is turned on/off by the relay. Didn...

Re: Above 32 degrees but with a frost advisory ... do you still ride?

Depends. This time of year the roads get warmed up during the day and the chances of black ice are low, even on bridges and overpasses. Naturally in the Spring the reverse is true and you can have black ice into the high 30's. Frost on the road would keep my bike in the garage, but it usually burns ...

Re: Clicking

I had brake pads do that (clicking) on another bike, I cleaned the pads and rotor with brake cleaner and the noise went away. I have a 2007 with over 100K, lots of questionable gas passed through those lines and so far no evident problems.

Re: Overheating?

Not me. Also went to SLC, I generally run 600/900 mile days and going out there was no different. Used Rt20 across the middle - not a good idea, in Nebraska the road was bad and the selection of gas was worse. Temps were around 100 but the temp bars stayed usually one bar over mid point. After the r...

Fuel strip calibration

I'm playing with the idea of re calibrating my fuel strip. Has anyone removed the fuel strip.
What was involved. It looks straight forward, but their's always a surprise.

Looking for someone that ACTUALLY did it.

Re: Third fuel strip in 600 miles

OK Don - sounds like a plan Complaint number 11030086 Riding on the highway at 65MPH the fuel gauge showed slightly less than 1/4 tank, the computer showed 50+ miles of gas left. The engine quit and I had to slowly drift across 3 lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder. The tank was empty. Actually ...

Re: New PIAA LED lights - and mounting

Follow up: Very happy. The lights came in handy riding home from the national in Salt Lake City. Stopped at Top of the Rockies Rally then picked up Rt50 in Montrose,Co and rode it to St. Louis. Leaving the motel long before dawn the lights paid for themselves in short order as their were no cars on ...

Re: What octane gas do you put in?

I've run 87 when it was the only thing available and the bike seemed happy on it. I've also used something only called GAS once when I almost ran out on a Native American Reservation, I asked what the octane rating was and the person looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. Normally I ru...

Re: Final Drive Play (Sorry guys)

How are you going to handle the flange recall. Does the used drive have the new flange. The reason I ask. I have a spare rear drive that has the old flange (no cracks) but my bike has had the recall done (new flange). I assume the dealer won't just put the new flange on a drive I walk in with as he ...

Re: Driveshaft

No indication at all, although the part was far from being a complete failure. OTOH - I had a Guzzi that had a universal that was very close to a total failure (IE: coming apart) and that just had a very slight vibration if you snapped the throttle close at speed. Shaft drive is superior to belt or ...

Driveshaft

At the National I noticed that Don Porters selling driveshafts for the R1200R. Priced at $650 it's cheaper then the $1,000 BMW unit but it's rebuild able and has grease fittings on it. Slightly more than the rebuild by the guy in Canada ($500) but looks superior. One of the good things with the proc...

I'm still here, check in every now and then. 120000+ and just came back from the MOA National, 6,500+ trip checking out Southern Utah and TOR on way back. Good news is most of those miles were NOT in New Jersey. Been C2C (I guess you could make that C2C2C as I did come home) three times, all the low...

Re: How big of a concern should getting hit from behind at a light be?

Happens a lot more than most riders think. Usually the damage to the rider is minor but the damage to the new bikes with all the body work can be expensive. Plus your bike can end up in the shop during prime riding time. Their are varied opinions (think oil) about what kind of rear auxiliary lightin...
