Re: New owner
Welcome. Your assessment is correct and has been true for most riders who discover the R1150R. Good balanced ride with just the right combination of performance, handling, and braking albeit with a non-adjustable seat, a difficult to reach battery, and few other faults. Sadly, the plastic fuel line ...

Re: 100 DAYS till the Harriman BASH!
Thanks, Kristi.
Gang, Confirmed at the desk that rooms are blocked until March 31. Some are in while others have waited - don't wait too long.
McDonalds is open, Ruby Tuesday is across the street, there is a Buddy's BBQ in Kingston. There are roads everywhere.

Re: 200 Days to Tennessee Bash
Well, somebody needs to publish the local desk number and hours of operation. Please.
And somebody (Jeff, Phil, Vann, Wayne) might ask them to hold several rooms at their base rate until March 31 or some such so Board miscreants can forcastinate making their reservations.
Just sayin'

Re: nasty clunking and whirring when trying to start
It is not likely the flywheel.
Starters have three problems - gunked up (readily solved with a good cleaning), bad internals (replace or repair), gremlins (sometimes they just do that, then stop).
There are some past threads (check the FAQ) at http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=17110

Re: 200 Days to Tennessee Bash
Thanks for the heads up! Best Western Harriman is either closed, in renovation, or booked solid from March through August. Might be the TVA clean-up crews in town or it might be nothing.
How about a head count of any who already have a confirmed reservation at Harriman Best Western?

Re: 2002 R1150R gas mileage
An engine performs most efficiently at the peak of the torque band - optimum work for optimum inputs. For both single and dual spark models of the R1150R's that occurs around 5200-5400rpm. Try some running around without going below 3500 rpm and without shifting before 6000 rpm. If you do it right, ...

Re: New 2002 R1150R........Wondering what I've done
Welcome. It is a nice ride. You can maintain it 95% yourself. You can repair 50-80% yourself.
1-3-5% problems do occur. But not to me or anyone I know (well, one I know and one I sorta heard about).

Re: Newbie
Fred, (or should I call you Fast?) R1150R is a solid, good performing all-rounder. I believe the 1150's hit the sweet spot of Boxer engine development - mostly mechanical, easy electrics, good fueling. At 85 hp more or less it is not a racer by any means but most find the telelever front and paralev...

Re: 200 Days to Tennessee Bash
A Brief Inaccurate History of the Bash 2001-2002 Doug begat the Board for those discerning enough to choose the BMW R1150R Roadster in late 2001 and early 2002. And the guys were good. And the bikes were good. And the rides were good. 2003 But some cried out, "Can we ride together?" and &q...
