Re: My motorcycle seat is too slippery

Another thought might be some of that sticky sponge rubber matting that is used to keep area rugs from sliding around on hardwood floors.

Re: How to Change oil and Filter by MAX BMW

Interesting. I guess it's not necessary to put oil into the oil filter prior to installing it? I just checked the factory service CD and it does not call for filling the filter with oil prior to instalation. I have seen that requirement on other bikes but have never really gotten my hands around th...

Re: How to Change oil and Filter by MAX BMW

why do i pay $221 for an oil change? is it really this easy? Yes it is that easy. The routine fluid changes (engine/tranny/final drive) on the R are pretty basic pull the plug/drain/refill operations. It does save a little cash but for me the most important part of DIY is the enhanced understanding...

Re: Hangin It Up

Sorry to hear that you are giving up riding. Maybe somewhere down the road you will get another bike. PM sent Roger L I think he's looking at an electric bike. Which in Sf might be a cool doable idea. While cool not practical for me as I live in the middle of nowhere. Most likely my next ride will ...

Re: My Bike v2

The Russell replaces a Bill Mayer seat that works great with the slightly forward position most people use with the R1200R. It will be going up on ebay soon once I figure out how much it's worth. http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-4_QcUKEQv1I/TuzO6ZrYwzI/AAAAAAAAEvk/ILl5kePjOaI/s400/P1020402.jpg Onc...

BigEasy, veering off topic just for a moment 8-[ ...how do you like your Rizoma mirrors? ... assume these are the Radial Naked? ...very nice bike... the whole setup is top shelf... Thanks for the compliment, I've tried to keep it tastefully clean. As for the mirrors you're correct Rizoma Radial Nak...

Would also be of interest to see how it starts @ 40 when it hasn't set for two weeks prior.

My Buell doesn't like setting for long periods, i.e. more than a couple of weeks, without being started. The R12R not as bad. Thanks for taking one for the team =D>

I coated mine a couple years ago and put up this post http://www.r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=13545 The bike looks like this today after about 6,000 miles http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc3/1BigEasy/Bikes/IMGP4908.jpg Yeah I know not a lot of miles compared to some guys but that's d...

I want to remove the engine. No, you can't ask me why! And, yes, I've searched this forum, other forums, and the entire interwebs... Re: Adjusting suspension: wheel chock anyone?

Pushing the bike into the front chock is probably easier than holding it and levering up the rear chock though. I've never used either and don't know. That is a correct assessment. I have a couple of Pit Bull rear stands (not the BMW one though, however I'm sure I'll find a way to justify one soone...

-When I blip the throttle the bike really shutters…. twins… weird That's kind of funny you say that. My R is my first boxer as well and I noticed the sitting still oscillation also. The really funny part is when I first got the bike as I would be slowing down (for stoping mostly not slowing for cor...

Re: Adjusting suspension: wheel chock anyone?

I have a couple of Condor Pit Stop wheel chocks. These are VERY robust, also not cheap. Image credit to Condor's website. http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc3/1BigEasy/DSC_8657__21609_zoom.jpg This particular model is free standing on it's own without securing it to a base as the one in the OP's p...

Re: tire change cost

Did a search for a tire changer for motorcycle and the NoMar products I found are impressive. I agree that the equipment would quickly pay for itself at the six hundred price or even a bit more. In the search I also found this from avid rider... http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29959...

Re: tire change cost

The local BMW dealer tells me to change the tires cost one hour ($85.00) of labor plus possible extra cost ($20.00) for valve stems and balance. A local motorcycle shop quoted a cost of one and a half hour and said the balance was not needed. The shop claimed mounting the tires in the same position...

Re: how to jack up r1200r

I'll second Don's lift table recommendation, they're worth every penny that they cost. I spent a bunch of years rolling around on cold concrete working on bikes and when I first got my lift I wondered why the heck I waited so long to get one. They do take up a lot of space in the garage but I just p...

Re: Parts to replace when installing shocks, general tips?

It's been 4 years since I did mine, and do not remember all of the ins and outs, but I do know I did not need to remove any of the covers. I did however have mine on a Craftsman lift/jack when I did it, that may have relaxed the front end somewhat. Mine did require some heat to loosen the thread loc...

A long time ago a friend of mine hit a German Shepard going about 75 mph on a freshly chip and sealed county road. His safety gear consisted of short pants anf flip flops. Re: EWS??

If I remember correctly from when the EWS failure was all the rage, the bike wouldn't even crank if the ring failed. You probably want to do a search to verify my suspect memory. If your battery is the origional it's most likely toast. A trickle charger will only tell you that it has a charge, not w...
