weight with passenger
Happy Monday. I have a new GF and she's six feet one inche and 240lbs 186 CM' / 111 KG. I'm six feet and 312 lbs , 140 KG, thankfully 40 lbs less than a year ago and still working on it. According to manual 522 LBs or 237KG and we are over that limit a good 13 KG / 30 lbs. Still using Stock Shocks a...

Re: Engine Running Hot Post Oil Change.
it's actually been fine since my post. not going over the halfway line. Might have been something odd. Oil level fine. Pressure seems fine..going to continue to watch it now that the sun is out in NYC! thanks all!

Engine Running Hot Post Oil Change.
Hey all. haven't been here in a while but plan to be a regular again now. I have 2009 R1200R with 21k miles, and very rarely runs hot unless on a very very warm day. I live in NYC (Manhattan), lots of stop and go traffic but weather has been mild here. I had an oil change at a reputable repair shop ...

Re: Can I bang on the starter?
Thanks all. It pays to have an honest repair shop. Cycle Therapy in NYC. A bit uptown but I brought to them, they called me and said "hey your battery was totally dead, we just charged it and you're fine now". I dare to imagine what might have happened if I brought it to BMW Corporate in M...

Can I bang on the starter?
Hey All, I have a 2009 R12R, 17K miles, rode a bit in the cold weather here in NYC. Bike in a garage in Manhattan, and won't start. Lights, hord, guages work. Called for a jump and that did nothing to start the bike. Still clicking noise..click click click.. is this a starter issue perhaps? I can ge...

Re: is this the clutch or worse?
Don you're right , it is the clutch. The bike is at MaxBMW--not NYC BMW--thank goodness! Found out yesterday. Best case scenario is $1500, worst case 2,000 depending on parts needed. Should have it back in time for Americade though. Dealer said that it's not unusual for a bike with 14K miles ridden ...

Re: is this the clutch or worse?
the bike went from slipping slightly and I mean slightly in 3rd and 4th gear to not moving at all when in any gear within the distance of a two miles. Would a bad clutch do that so quickly? The only other time I needed a clutch was years ago on my R1100R and I remember it slipping but being able to ...

is this the clutch or worse?
uh oh..could this be the clutch or something more serious? Since getting my 2011 R1200R back from 12K service 6 weeks ago I have been noticing a slight burning smell and thought I felt some slippage occasionally last week. Since I was in the city most of the time I thought the burning smell might be...

Re: Do I need these at 12K Service?
Thanks All, I never thought they were trying to screw me. I just know that "bmw recommends" can sometimes be ambiguous as I have learned here. And it wasn't "required" in the 12K service PDF I have seen , but I did get all three done and bike will be back tomorrow. I love my deal...

Do I need these at 12K Service?
Happy ands Healthy 2016 to everyone here. I am about 1,000 miles past the 12K service. 2009 R12R bought new in 2011 as a left over. Bike is at the dealer now and they called and said they suggest the following BMW recommends the following fluid service Bevel Gears (Final Drive) - every 2 years or 12...

May go a bit late for 12K service
Just past 12K and with a trip or two coming up may need to push that service to 13 or 13.5K at the worst. Bike seems fine. great gas mileage...sounds good..no problems. Am I risking anything by waiting another 1500 miles max for the 12K service?
Thank you.
Love this bike!
Thank you.

Re: CPD (Compliments Per Day)
This thread was really meant for how many compliments I get on my bike and assuming most others are the same way. Probably should have broken into two posts. The new R looks nice..to me it doesn't look like a what a BMW twin. ..it's hard to see the engine...I believe the tank is plastic right, looks...

CPD (Compliments Per Day)
My disappointment in the '15 R12R kind of caused me to not be around here the last few months but that's another story for another day. Definitely missed the community here. I think our bike (at least up till '14 model) must lead any similar bike in CPD-Compliments Per Day. I swear I get at least th...

Re: More on new R12R with Video
you could also get a mini tripod and use your digital camera or camera phone and set the timer to go off while you are sitting on the bike with the bike level.
