Great info and trip report. I can see how folks get addicted to the "long haul" IBA events... just completed my 1st Saddlesore 1k and enjoyed the experience.

DJ - I'm working on the narrow Euro bar option. I'm thinking about 24" width... would that work for you? Also, only a slight "sweep" bend (angle back towards rider from center straight section). If you have specifics in mind, scribble them down here for comparison. Regards, Mark Oregon

Like Pat says, handlebars are key! Has anyone found alternative bars for the R1150R that are NARROW and low? I'm looking for "Lenker" that resemble the old R90S Euro configuration... little or no rise, very little sweep, and no more than 24" width. And no, drag bars won't do it for me...
