No. It is nearly always operator error or abuse.

Re: Front tire wear

Well known matter. Front tires wear more on the left, especially for high mileage riders. All brands, all suspensions, all pressures. There are numerous discussions but the one I like best is that left turns require more distance traveled than right. If true, then left drive countries would experien...

Re: 1150 issues?

Surging is a non-issue for the dual spark engines (2004 and beyond). Earlier models had a simpler fuel map, extreme sensitivity to local gas quality, and required very close adjustments of throttle bodies and throttle position sensor to run smoothly. Overall, very few were plagued by surge while tho...

Waited for the BCS opening rankings before replying. First (tongue in cheek): You just waited until Iowa was having a good year to start a football post! Second: Out of the blue, WVU Mountaineers managed to be in the poll (bottom 5 of 25). Third: Yes, parity has been here since early part of the cen...

Re: New guy here... I've got a battery question

The BT Jr is the perfect charger for the battery, even if you have the BMW Exide gel monstrosity installed. When it finally comes time to replace, go with a true AGM and skip BMW provided batteries.

Re: R1200R or Moto Guzzi Griso?

I have done an annual head-to-head between Griso and R1150R. So far, the Griso loses only because service support cannot be expected locally. I seem to remember the older (4v) model had foot controls too far forward for me, too heavy for the power output, and a bit of a reach across the tank for han...

Re: So, Daryl_Stamp, you planning a fingerlakes Bash '10?

Sounds like a good date. Will you insure weather for the ride up from Virginia is clear, sunny and warm? How about some clear cool nights as well? General stuff as you know requires an option for camp or cabin in addition to motel central. Walking distance to restaurant with all three meals offered....

Re: Pulled over.

It really depends on the jurisdiction, the judge, and the officer's prior record before the court. Your best effort will be done by a lawyer on your behalf. He knows the court, the judge and the police and can work before the hearing date for a change in your favor. At the hearing he knows better th...

Re: 2002 R1150R Bumble Bee?

BMW did not specify any particular special edition or numbered series for that sub-model. It was offered between mid-2002 and early 2003 as a 2002 model, then the paint scheme idea morphed into the Rockster and later the Dark/Dark Ferro version. There are no special characteristics of the version - ...

Re: My first BMW...

Noises at start up and while riding from the cam chain assembly are not uncommon. Clacking valves, on the other hand, while rare, would be another matter. A sound or sensation of grinding or growling at the rear hub during corners is not good. Best sound, with valve adjustment, throttle body sync, g...

Re: ABS info

Compared to the incidents of final drive failure reporting and clutch hub/input shaft failure reporting the ABS unit failures reported are miniscule. Actual failure rates appear to be 3-5% for final drives; around 1% for clutch hubs and input shafts; well under 1% for ABS units. For perspective, BMW...

Re: Should I get an R1150R or a R1200GSA

Get the R1200GSA because it is more modern, a proven design and offers higher performance. The R1150R is likely to have increased maintenance requirements and offers fewer wind/weather options. Both are good performers. Many such as myself, prefer the heavier, less powerful, but more user friendly m...
