Bike prep for winter riding?

I ride about 10 miles to work and with morning temprature at 23 F I noticed the oil temp display got to mid screen about the time I got to work. Winter tempratures here can get to single digits, should I be doing anything different with oil, or riding procedures?

Re: Replacement rear brake rotor

I did find replacement rotors at beemerboneyard. I also think I found the cause of the warp. The pin holding the pads in place (think capital letter L) was facing the wrong way, toward the driveshaft, causing the inner pad to hang on the caliper and drag all the time. This also caused the pad to wea...

Replacement rear brake rotor

Has anyone replaced the rear brake rotor with an aftermarket unit? If so can you tell me brand, source and price?

If you don't mind getting a little dirty I say go for it!
Now that is my kind of road! I'm jealous, roads off the parkway have way too many tree's blocking the view.

R12R not great on dirt roads

Yes I know..it should be obvious, but from my viewpoint, I've been riding for over 40 years and have always expected every bike to be functional at anything I want to do, tour, commute, sport and dirt/logging roads. We ride 2up up 90% of the time and the only bike that has been a big dissapointment ...

Re: 1150 Rockster or new R1200R

I think a ride would on both will help you out a lot. I personally really liked the way the Rockster sat and handled but wanted ABS and did not like the old 'power' system. The R1200R is a big improvement engine wise and luggage, I don't like the seat and have adjusted the riding position to kind of...

Re: Ordering New R1200R

For bars, a few of us have changed the bars to F800ST with a 1" riser underneath. This is a bit lower and narrower than stock. I like it.

Re: R1200R fit for taller riders.

I'm 6' even and have the same bar setup as Peter, I have the tall BMW seat. I have to say leg room is not as generous as the GS and I feel a bit cramped in that area at times and I could use a different seat, but the seat probably applies to any motorcycle I've ever owned other than our old Concours...

Re: Options and Accessories for the R1200R

I like hard bags, they are good for the next trip to Alaska and the BMW bags for the R1200R are really a great setup, a real improvement over the last 4 versions of BMW luggage I've had over the last 30 years. Guess the only item I might wonder about is the ESC, really great idea but all suspension ...

Re: Test Ride Feedback - R1200R and R1200GS

Guess the only thing I might add, I had an 1150GS a few bikes back which I really enjoyed. I'm thrilled with the R1200R, but....with the GS...you feel absolutely no pressure to make it look nice, it's an ugly beast (my opinion) and if it is dirty, so what, if the backrest for the wife (Sargent) look...

New tires = new bike

I always hate seeing my tires need replacement, the cost, the stress of trying to decide which one....I've done this well over 100 times, but it's always the same. I always want something that will last longer, improve feedback, make the bike "perfect" and give me something more for my har...

I ordered bars from them and it took 3 weeks. They probably try to consolidate orders to save a few bucks.

Rear brake pad retainer question

I just changed the rear pads on my bike (6,000 miles) because the inside pad was pretty much toast. I removed the clip, pulled out the pads, replaced them then tried to insert the clip. I could not really see too well so I removed the caliper. The clip came out with the L shaped head facing right (v...

Re: Rear brake pad wear

Don, Yes you did catch me on the other list, thanks. No I probably will never get the same mileage you get out of the pads. I ride 2up almost exclusively, my wife wants to go faster year in and year out even though I'm way old enough to know better and I live less than 60 miles from the Blue Ridge P...

Rear brake pad wear

I've only got about 5,000 miles on the new bike but the rear pads are just about gone. Wear seems to be just on the inside pad leading me to think the caliper is not releasing completly, sticking....there also seems to be some drag on the rear wheel which I initially thought was the rear drive drag ...

Re: My first mountain ride on my R1200R

Well....I for one think the bars provide a bit too much leverage making the bike feel a bit flighty. Guess after over 40 years of this stuff I still prefer something that requires a bit more heft at the helm, but that might just be a reflection on my historical perspective. I'm hoping the change to ...

Re: New handlebar and mirrors

I have the same handlebars on order, didn't even consider the clearance problem. Where did you get the riser? Is the tank clearance any issue now? How about the bar angle compared to stock? I am hoping for something a bit straighter.
