Re: Bye bye clutch splines :(

- My biggest curiosity, is why BMW didn't adjust this design immediately. Not a very expensive endeavour(relatively)...But, I suppose they would have to admit wrongdoing in that case, which wont happen As somebody that works in the warranty department of a major German automotive company I can say ...

Re: Bye bye clutch splines :(

There are at least 4 of my spacers that are spinning in various bikes (including mine). All of my parts are 6mm, there is no interference issue. The only interference issue you might run into is if you use bolts. Make sure bolt heads are on the side facing the engine and you might still run into a s...

Re: Bye bye clutch splines :(

The original spacer I made was because I was cheap and didn't want to pay $600 for a modified clutch plate. Actually, I think it was the attitude of the video that made me do it. As you probably know there are a couple possible solutions. (lets assume there is a problem :D ) 1. Longer shaft (best an...

Re: Is There a Way to Get A Deeper Sound with Standard Exhau

I think the stock pipe is just a dress up. It is heavy and in the way of the rear wheel removal. As many have done, remove the exhaust pipe, put a small downturn pipe on. You will get the sound you want and the bike is easier to service (rear wheel removal). I am not a "boy racer" type eit...

Re: Warm up time on an r1150r

If you want to know heat, take a ride on a K75RT on a hot Florida day. You don't know what is worse, moving or standing still. While moving your knees are being blasted by hot air coming from the engine and windshield is preventing any air from cooling you. I cant wait for winter, that will be my bi...

Re: Warm up time on an r1150r

This is another common "myth" that I have an issue with. I understand that fully dressed bikes might run into some trouble if let idling for too long due to the plastics heating up, but on a naked R1150 there is nothing that can catch fire so that part is out. But wait, the engine will ove...

Re: New EPROM chip?

It doesn't really go into "circuitry". The chip in question is where the maps are kept. On a lowest level what ME does is look at the inputs (hall sensors (n) ,throttle angle (alpha) ) and provides the outputs by looking them up in the maps (injection duration and ignition timing). There a...

Re: ABS R1150R Year 2001

There is definitely no reason to cut the harness in either case. Take the hydraulics out, keep the electronics, take the relay and the light bulb out and move on. Brakes on my 04 Rockster were the craziest thing I have ever experienced. They were noisy, overly intrusive, and unpredictable. I almost ...

Re: wont run

You don't need the books. Get on the bike, ignition on and turn the handlebars left/right. It should be enough to figure it out. It sound like a break in the kill switch wiring.

Re: ABS R1150R Year 2001

If by "the worst" you mean bad ABS module there is no need to worry.
It is probably the easiest mod to do and you will have better brakes. Not to mention 0$ total cost.
Just rip it out and move on.

Re: 2002 ABS and Clutch failures

I bought my first BMW 04 Rockster in December. 2 days later bike would not crank right. Tried jump starting didn't work. Figured out its bad battery. While taking the tank off broke quick disconnect. After checking the battery figured out it was a starter. Took it apart and grease plate was lose. Kn...

Re: Need to Know Jump Start Lug Locations for 2004 R1150R

If you have it it will be sticking out through the plastic starter cover. If not you can buy the parts to make it, about 20$. As far as jump starting remove the plastic starter cover t25 screw I believe and use the positive starter lug to clamp onto.

Re: Bye bye clutch splines :(

It is a very small bearing so possibly undersized. I am assuming that it was not easy to design clutch slave cylinder and (more or less ) throwout bearing in such a small package, so some compromises were made (as usual).

Re: Bye bye clutch splines :(

Esmir - You said - They mostly fail because bearing start to seize - How can that be prevented? Cheers, Kurt I think the best way to reduce the potential for failure is to minimize the clutch engagement. Don't sit with the clutch engaged. Use the clutch as intended, pull, shift, release. There is a...

Re: Bye bye clutch splines :(

The housing for the clutch slave in the gearbox looks nasty. Dried up clutch fluid but no gearbox oil. Any suggestions on whether I should rebuild the clutch slave cylinder or just buy a new one? m I would open it up and see what the situation with the seals is, if you know what you are doing. They...
