felt a bit of a difference between 09 and 2014

Test drove 2014 R12R today. There's nothing I don't like about my 09 with 10K miles on it but the 14 felt stronger, tighter, pulled more from low RPMS. Maybe the tighter feeling was a new shock vs mine? I know you don't really get back money you put into upgraded things like shocks and such so is it...

Differences between 2009 and 2013?

Hope everyone is well. Thinking of going from my 09 to a 2013 that has less than 2500 miles on it. Other than the instrument cluster, I know the '13 has twin cam vs the push-rod set up on my 09. Are there benefits of one vs the other? Will I feel difference? Seems like about 5 or 6 horsepower differ...

Re: New Roadster

Why would telelever be discontinued on new R1200R? I love the look and the concept and feel.

slider/bung question

Been looking at a few of these on touratech and revzilla. Are these sold in pairs typically? The wording on the sites seem to be that pricing is for single sliders and at around $80 a pop, four would be pricey. Also if I have engine guards/covers would these areas the bung is on really come contact ...

Re: Could this be my clutch or something else?

Yes, just picked it up a few hours ago at Max BMW near Danbury, CT. For some reason there were no fault code readings when hooked up to the service computer. They had to replace the fuel pump under warranty twice, including gasket, clamp, and apparently whatever it was also caused the plugs to foul ...

Re: Touring with a Gold Wing and R12R

Thanks for all suggestions on riding and roads. Turns out our corporate sales meeting is now moved to later in the year and I think I will be able to ride there myself.

It also appears I am part of the fuel pump recall. Perhaps this could be the cause as well.

Could this be my clutch or something else?

Just got back from a Saturday ride. 2009 R1200R bought new in 2011, still under warrantee and 7200 miles and 7K service was performed two months ago. While riding on the Long Island Express way in 4th gear noticed a stutter upon acceleration. Problem subsided for about 5 minutes but then rest of the...

Re: Touring with a Gold Wing and R12R

thanks so much for the insight from everyone! While this person is senior to me at work, I do not report to him and have been on a friendly with him for years. With the FB killing the definition of what a friend is I do consider this person a friend but not a close friend. He is mentor in a way. I a...

Re: Touring with a Gold Wing and R12R

Good Question. The gentleman I will be riding with was a former colleague back in the 90s when we both worked at a different company. We were friendly back then but not good friends. About two years ago he joined our company and we have become friends and he's senior to me and we work on some projec...

Touring with a Gold Wing and R12R

Was going to put this in another of the subforums but since it involves an R1200R (me and mine) thought I'd post here. Been touring for 20 years and all long tours have been solo (long tours for me are a week and about 2,000 miles round trip) so I am used to going at my own pace , choosing my own ro...

Is normal to expect a cleaning with a 7K service

Brought my 09 (though purchased new in 2011) R1200R in for 7k service last week, and while this dealer had done other minor things to the bike previously, they have never done service like this. In the past at BMW Manhattan and other NY area dealers, my bmws have always been returned to me sparkling...

Top Case Suggestions

Finally broke down and ordered the $319 luggage porter kit that replaces the cheapo side racks that came for free with normal racks where you can mount a top case. How $12 pounds of plastic costs $465 US is beyond me but that's what BMW wants for their top case. I know its one lock and one key and r...

Oily/greasy residue on right swing arm..see photo

Just noticed over the weekend that I have some oily dark-ish residue on the right swing arm in the areas indicated below. its not black just dark and slippery and smells petroleum-ish. it's also on the frame tubes but not the tank. There's no leaking under the bike when parked or anything like that....
