Re: How Can You Tell if a Cable is Bad

I wonder if anyone has replaced the OE cable segments with "normal " serviceable cable? Not that such change would necessarily be bettter, but less expensive and more maintenance manageable. Bowden box is simple device and serviceable. CycleRob did one of his excellent photo essays on R115...

Re: Grade 5 Titanium Caliper Mounting Bolts - Yes or No

We had bad fire season in Oregon a few years back, with smoke that settled in valley for weeks making everything BBQ flavor. Forest fires were normal, just the wind patterns unusual. Without local knowledge I don't know how to interpret the Aussie fires: seasonal, exceptional, unexpected? We also se...

Re: Noise from Michelin Road 5

FWIW I've got another couple thousand miles on Road 5 set on K1300S, about 6.5k miles, very good wear, excellent wet traction. Feel a bit less grip at rear in dry versus the PR4s last on bike, but I don't push my luck: no traction control and 175HP.

Re: Sub-frame vertex stabilisation ?

Example of "mono posto" perfection:

Tail extends just past rear wheel centerline. Bike stance is perfectly suited to sporting intent.

Re: Sub-frame vertex stabilisation ?

Yes I agree with James - some additional rear subframe structure would help balance with forward bike structure, which is dense. If the rear subframe somehow resembled the Telelever A-arm (segment thickness, curvature, % open area) then a chopped bike would look more put together. I was inspired by ...

What options are there for the message board? How can we help Doug?
Is it time to move content to another system, or website - like Borg assimilation via ADV Rider, where the R1150 Oilhead content is germane? Or BMMOA.

Re: New 2004 R1150R

We don't use engine guards on any of our bikes, like to save weight. Actually when we rode up to Alaska I removed them from the 650 V-Strom I took. I was glad to have the skid plate on my R1150R which I took on last year trip... Thanks for info. I'm thinking about skid plate for Rockster2. Haven't ...

Swamper- based on your trip experience, how important was the GS skid plate? You've got engine guards also, correct?

Re: New 2004 R1150R

Welcome to the family. R1150R is a good machine and nice contrast to hyper-tourer like your ZX and my K13. Your 2004 should already have SS/Teflon brake lines. If ABS then must service or convert bike to non-ABS. Lots of ergonomic options. Only real performance modifications are weight reduction, su...

Fuse 1 for non-ABS R1150R is also brake switches/lamp.

Re: Electrical weirdness!

So, after pulling the tank and staring hopelessly at all those wires, I decided to check the fuses and found #1 blown. Replaced it and everything works again. Could it be that simple? Guessing it's not that simple. Why did Fuse 1 blow? It's another symptom of the underlying problem. Always check th...

Re: Electrical weirdness!

thanks for the responses. Sweatmark - I'll check to see what happens when not in motion. To check the system voltage, I can use the (+) and (-) battery leads, correct? I'll try to get to that this weekend. Or you could measure at accessory socket using spare plug and wires, saving you from tank rem...

Re: Oil leak diagnosis challenge!

Any chance leak is from preload adjuster? That's a "glass half-full" troubleshooting inquiry. I did wonder that, but i couldn't see any leaks near the joins. My Ohlins rear shock leaked on Rockster 1. Leak was at transition from flex line to fitting. Result was similar to your discovery o...

James, I've been thinking about your car rental preference and have yet to find authentic '60s-'70s muscle car rentals. Values of those cars have gone crazy high in recent years, and they are now very rare. One option to consider is a current muscle car. I normally rent from Avis during business tra...

Re: R1200 Engine Info

I havent heard much good said about the A-80, but like so many things, thats all it is; hear-say. The compression ratio is 7.55:1 , so its higher than an A-65, but its still low in comparison to more modern engines and the RPM goes up to 2700; again nothing drastic. The pistons are supposedly fairl...

Re: Streetguard 4 (2018) Jacket

I'm guessing the leaking pocket is design feature intended to promote customer-dealer relationship. There are actually only 3 such jackets in your area, carefully cleaned and renewed each time you return it, to be exchanged for one of the others. Suggest you place secret identifier inside each versi...
