Re: Subframe - What are these tabs and mount point for?
Hmmmm,, Charcoal canister. If that were the case they were never used in Australia and that would explain why there is nothing on it. I suppose I should stop prevaricating and act. Nothing is mounted to it and my aim to build a more 60's / 70's style frame to support a more old school look. Who dare...

Subframe - What are these tabs and mount point for?
Ok, I am modifying the subframe. The aim is to have it as clean as possible and it will be a single seat (no pillion). There are 2 bits, a mount point and tab and I have no idea what they are for or if they need to stay. Any explanations are much valued. 1 - Right hand side, 60mm or so behind the pa...

Re: Safely adjusting banjo bolts
Thanks guys,
I have rolled the bars up a tad but I think I will wait until next service to get the bolts adjusted, call me a wuss but having to bleed the brakes or clutch is a hassle I don't want at the moment.

Sol

Re: Safely adjusting banjo bolts
I put a set of mirror polished (polishing them was a bit of a chore) rockster bars on it. They look great and let me drop the angle a bit but I think I may need to put on some steering stop guards. The Rock bars do not have the same rise and pullback as the R bars and this places them closer to the ...

Safely adjusting banjo bolts
I have fitted new bars to the bike. Unfortunately this puts the brake and clutch hoses at an awkward angle where they exit the metal sleeve from the banjo fitting. Is it possible to very very gently loosen the bolt and adjust it, or am I going to get air in the line and end up needing to bleed the b...

Drain holes on the top of the valve covers ?
Hi chaps. I am considering a modification and want to poll the collective wisdom to see if there are any conceivable issues. The valve covers have finned channels running fore and aft. The also have fins running transversely (same alignment as the heads) at the front and rear edges of the cover. The...

Braided stainless brake hoses...Yes
Ok. I will admit openly that I was skeptical but my hoses were 17 years old and I considered it time to replace them. (ABS model) Yea gods and little fishes! It's like the mechanic fitted me with brand new brakes. The handle feel is totally different, it's now massively firm but progressive. It used...

I did this a few years ago. The hardest bit is getting the old globes out. The list below should help. The thread discussing it is here. http://www.r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=23754&p=207498&hilit=Soliton+LED#p207498 uper Bright LEDs, Inc. 4400 Earth City Expressway St. Louis, M...

Bevel box to swingarm bearing upgrade kit ???
Has anyone ever seen, heard or used these doodads? Time to replace my bevel box pivot bearings. I went to Motorworks UK to buy the bits and when I put in the BMW part number into the search box - 33172311091 Up pops this thing "Bevel box to swingarm bearing upgrade kit" Bearings I understa...

Re: ABS Failure
Hmmmmm.... I took the bike to the dealer for a diagnostic. They advised me that the whole unit was shot and would need replacing. I rode the bike home and did a couple of things and now it is working again. 1 - Pulled the relay and fuse and put them back. 2 - Removed my GS hand guards. This may seem...

ABS Failure
Guys, Had a most unpleasant experience and I want to get an idea of what I might be in for. I was riding home and noticed the ABS warning light flashing as I approached a line of stopped vehicles at a set of lights. This is when I found what it's like to ride an ABS bike with no servo boost. I was s...

Re: r1150r-r1150gs wheels
No you can't. Not without a range of modifications. I know because I have done it, 1 - GS and R wheels are different diameters. This will mean changes to you front guard and it will mess with your speedo. 2 - If you are using the spoked GS hub it does NOT mount exactly the same as the R1150 front hu...

Re: Anyone removed the O2 sensor?
Sykospain, I had a Y-pipe on it and a 200mm (very, very stubby) muffler that was fully open and had zero restriction in it. It sounded absolutely magnificent (deep and booming with a fine bark on the over-run) however in a suburban environment it was obnoxiously loud and required me to wear ear plug...

Re: Starting custom build gain - Throttle body ticking
Thx Kirby, When the throttle bodies are fully closed/neutral there is an adjustment on the engine side that has blue paint on it. Everything I have read says..."Don't touch this or your head will explode" I gather this is set at the factory and is balanced between the throttle bodies. If o...

Anyone removed the O2 sensor?
Has anyone disconnected their O2 sensor completely? I recently had my bike on the dyno and saw what happens when it kicks in. It only goes into closed loop mode between 3500 and 4500 rpm when the throttle is at 50%. The fuel mix goes insanely lean. When I later spoke to my mechanic he said.."Aw...

Starting custom build gain - Throttle body ticking
Hi guys, After the "back wheel fell off" disaster I have started again. I bought the same year, make, model and colour and am rebuilding a new bike. Can't shake the fact that of the R series bikes that model is my favourite. Quick question. How many km should I have on the clock before I s...

Rattling jingling sound lower left side when cold
R1150r 2002 - new secondhand bike. Imagine getting a length of kids bicycle chain and pulling it across the rounded shaft of a scrwedriver. A clattering jingly sound, high pitched and almost musical in an ominous "something terrible is gonna happen" way. When the engine is cold it is loud ...

ABS- Engine off, no brakes....normal??
Hi guys, My beloved convinced me to buy an ABS model (safety, concern for well being etc) Is it normal that when the engine isn't running there are no brakes. Parked on a hill, I dropped the bike into neutral to start and found myself rolling backwards. Grabbed a handful of brake....NADA Surely this...

Re: Small Clunk - Big Clunk (Rear wheel)
To answer the question about the hugger - Puig and it was painted with truck bed paint. They are going to write off my bike. Repairs are quoted at AUD$11,000. I will seek first right of refusal on the bike but re-registering a repairable writer off is troublesome here. My intention is to buy another...
