Re: (new rider) wind while riding at 50 mph uncomfortable

And if your tire blows because of interstate speeds, it is either worn, defective or cheap. Any good tire is rated for much higher speeds than legal.

Re: (new rider) wind while riding at 50 mph uncomfortable

Re; passing trucks. I have passed a few in 200,000 miles on BMWs over the years. The best method is do your normal speed coming up on them, wait for traffic to clear enough to pass the whole truck then whack the throttle open to pass them as quickly as possible! Also minimizes time next to them, in ...

Re: (new rider) wind while riding at 50 mph uncomfortable

The bike won't blow over on you while riding. (While on the side stand in a high wind is a different story!). It will however change lines on you suddenly! Especially during cross winds with truck traffic constantly changing the wind you face. Like all things motorcycle related, constant vigilance i...

Re: Beakster Bash XIV 2017

Hopefully, my body and bike hold out to attend next year's Bash, wherever we end up! Missed VIII for bike issues and VIII for knee issues! The knee is fixed now anyway and I am back to riding! As ctRrider said, anywhere in that neighborhood is great. I actually considered Floyd when I organized the ...

Re: Can anything make the R1150r louder?

Running without the muffler and a chrome tip instead is as loud as I want. It also allows me to use a full size saddle bag on the left side. Very handy. If loud is your main objective, you probably bought the wrong bike. Back in the day, BMW riders were glad to be quieter than most. I sound like an ...

Re: Any garment to keep sweat away from your jacket?

You can try a water proof nylon windshirt - then die from dehydration. Moving sweat away from your body is a good thing, in heat or cold. It's riding gear, not a suit for weddings and funerals. I just washed my jacket and pants in the washer at home for the first time in at least 12 months. You shou...

Re: BEAKSTER BASH 2016!!!! MARATHON NY - Three Bears Inn

Appreciate the thought Doc but I had planned on extra time off work going and coming home to take detours to ensure a good ride was had, not just a long ride. Disappointing to have it all vaporize in a split second. Get to be our age and 6 months is more significant chunk of our remaining ride time!...

Re: BEAKSTER BASH 2016!!!! MARATHON NY - Three Bears Inn

Fate intervenes again. Last time I tried to attend a Bash up north, the bike failed me. Only one I have missed. This year, alas, it is my body failing me. I will have to miss this after all and really was looking forward to riding in this area. :( Last Sunday, while running an agility course with my...

Re: BEAKSTER BASH 2016!!!! MARATHON NY - Three Bears Inn

Any idea of the number of attendees? My plan is still for arrival Thursday evening, breaking it up into a two day ride so I don't have to drone on the slab for the whole way. Thinking of taking an extra day coming back too, so maybe detour into some country I haven't ridden on the way home. So far, ...

Re: Pilot 4 spun from pure gold?

I run the PR4 tires and I certainly didn't pay that much. Of course, I got them at the Honda dealer. Actually got the first one at the BMW dealer and it was reasonable also. You need to shop around! They are good tires but I get my usual 7,000 or out of them.

Re: Integral ABS lights on

If it was not the charging or could not be rebuilt, I would also remove the unit and almost have once or twice. But for now, it's still working. And at almost 90K, it might not be around this time next year, so resell is a concern. Not worth much as it is anyway with that mileage!

Re: Integral ABS lights on

Before you remove the ABS, and remove the extra value of ABS at trade-in or resell, check the battery and voltage. It happened to me, actually on the way out of town on a trip. I was actually losing braking power when the lights came on! A stop by the BMW dealer for a diagnosis showed low voltage si...

Re: BEAKSTER BASH 2016!!!! MARATHON NY - Three Bears Inn

So the room is booked! I will probably leave here Wednesday afternoon and go partway so I can get off the interstate Thursday and find a back road route to get there by that evening. Sunday will likely mean a zero dark thirty departure and a haul a$$ day home. Doc, I would like to reserve a spot in ...

Re: Exhaust Adventures

I have been running without the muffler for a few years now, ever since I lost the left saddlebag! Figured if I had to get another bag, it wasn't going to be that tiny one with the cutout for the exhaust. I just got a tip from the auto parts store that turns out. The hard part is finding a cl...

Re: BEAKSTER BASH 2016!!!! MARATHON NY - Three Bears Inn

According to Google Maps, 730 miles for me. All on I-81. I plan on being there! Doubt my son can make this one, since I will probably take some extra vacation time he doesn't have but unless fate intervenes, look for me! Probably Thursday, so I can do a couple of rides in the area and make the ride ...

I installed a set of Mondo Moto lights under the plastic pods but they are smaller and lighter than some options. Re: 2016 BMW Bash

I'll say it's north! North of NYC and NJ! Heck of a boring ride from here! I am hesitate to endorse the Marathon location for the same reason I am reluctant to organize another one around here. Lots of good riding but it makes it a burden for the guys from a longs ways away. Except for the hard guys...
