Re: FIXED (Odd re-boots & full power outage while riding)

I recently replaced the ignition on my 08 R. My symptoms were a delay in anything happening after I'd turn the key. The delay would be as long as 10 seconds at times. It was an easy job, made easier because the mechanic who did the EWS antenna replacement did use the one time use screws that are cal...

What's the text on the front fender?
Thanks.

The decal is for Dust To Dawson. It is an annual gathering of riders in Dawson City, Yukon Territory. We've been 6 or 7 times.

Re: R1200R leg protectors to eliminate noise/buffeting

I've put about 40K touring miles on my R. I use panniers on long trips and I have Wunderlich foot guards mounted, Combined with the Parabellum Sport fairing with a Touratech extension and GS handguards this arrangement provides very good protection for my legs. Buffetting has never been an issue, wi...

Re: Potential sale price inquiry

A motorcycle of that age, with low miles and well equipped is worth as much or as little as you can get for it. Books do a poor job of predicting the sale price of middle age motorcycles. Ask what you think is fair, be ready to adjust your price and be patient.

Re: MY R is gone, sold, I'm out

I bought an FJR a year and 21,000 miles ago. It is a great machine and seems to be rock solid reliable. That being said, I still have my R12R and ride it often. Enjoy your FJR.

GS and RT yes. R, RS. R9T no. Why? Have no data; have heard and made guesses. Most likely has something to do with money.

Re: Ping Dr Strangelove

This post needs pictures!!! I have Hepco Bekker bags on my 08. Not elegant and very utilitarian in appearance, but they do offer a bunch of space and make the R a good long distance hauler even when camping. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e109/AKBeemer/Glacier%20Park%20and%20Nakusp%20BC%20Aug%202...

Re: New to me R1200R

No doubt the R12R is an easy bike to maintain. I just did a service on mine that included: replace ignition switch, oil, filter, transmission oil, final drive oil, spline lube, valve check (no adjustment needed), throttle body synch (minor adjustment), disassemble and clean rear caliper, check for c...

Well I guess they were right... for your bike... for now on.

Any offer to refund the money you paid for the evidently unnecessary work they performed?

Re: 2015 R1200R Water Boxer

Doddering???? I wish I could still dodder. I think the discontinuation of the telelever has to do with the engineering complexity of adding it to the water cooled bikes and that means $$$$. Maybe it is a test and soon we'll see it removed from other models as well. I'm certain BMW will be forthright...

I lived in Germany for 6 years and there is no doubt they are better drivers than here in N America. Better training to start with.

Re: I'm back - or how to visit a LOT of countries in Europe

Try riding or driving in an Italian city. The word comfortable will not be on your mind. I once drove a Dodge Power Wagon pick-up throough Milan. They have many traffic circles and there seem to be no lanes or rules when passing using them. It was like trying to navigate a Nimitz class carrier throu...

Re: Brake pads and rotors

I've got EBC pads front and rear and an EBC rotor on the rear. No problems with any of it so far. About 12K on the rear pads, 5k on the rotor (mine had warped) and I cannot recall how long I've had the front pads in.

Re: Fuel Strip finally addressed by BMW..sort of

I had one replaced out of warranty while on a trip a couple years ago at Gateway BMW in St. Louis, MO. I contacted them three weeks or so ago and was told it would be a long wait and I likely wouldn't get all the money I spent, just what BMW covered. I got home today after a weekend trip to Springf...

I've had the same bag attached to those brackets for 5 years without incident. When I removed.... er, ah... when the canister fell off, I kept the brackets for the straps. I recently started using a small magnetic bag. Convienent as can be, but it has made some scratches.
