Re: Final Drive
There is a webside: http://www.bmwfinaldrive.com which shows a list (with owners name, mileage, vin number etc) of about 260 failures and I believe most of these failures originated with the bearing disintergrating and therefore damaging the seal and loss of oil. It is covered by the warranty and I ...

Re: Final Drive
The oil was changed at 600, 6,600 and at the recent 12,000 miles service. But it was pointed out to me that in my case the bearing collapsed and therefore had nothing to do with the oil. The bearing has its onw lubrication (grease) system. The damaged bearing parts damaged the seal and therefore oil...

Final Drive
Has anybody had problems with his final drive on a R1200R? My 2008 with about 15,000 miles had a failure this past weekend with very little warning. By the time I stopped the rear wheel and tire was covered with oil. Apparently the bearing gave in and damaged the main seal therefore all the oil pour...

Re: TOP Five Options On Your R1200R!
In my case: ABS, Center stand, Heated grips, High BMW seat, Hand guards, windscreen. Have side bags but use them rarely unless I am going on an extended trip. Otherwise prefer a tailbag.

Re: Turbulence * breakthrough? * screens may not be at fault!
Frankly the R1200R is a nacked bike and therefore turbulence is to be expected. Suggest riders who cannot stand turbulence and want a lot of wind protection should buy an RT.
My 2 cents worth

Re: Side stand overnight
Alone that the bike does not come with a centerstand would indicate that a centerstand is not needed. In my case I have a centerstand which makes it easier to check tire pressure, change tires, oil etc.

Re: Octane
To me the most important item is gas without ethalon. My 08 R1200R has no problem with midgrade gas and I have used regular gas without any problems. I believe the computer adjust itself to the various grades. Most likely I will loose some top power. I noticed also that VW in their bochures mentions...

Re: GPS Power Source
I powered my GPS directly to the battery, which I like better since the unit stays on when the power is turned off.

Re: Oil change frequency for R12R
The bike (08) has 10,400 miles on the odometer and I bought it from previous owner with about 3,3000 miles. Obviously one adds oil when needed. My question: Is it normal to use oil after the bike driven over 10,000 miles?

Re: Oil change frequency for R12R
Since you are discussing oil change frequency, my question is after how many miles do you have to add oil? After today's ride and after have ridden the bike for 3,800 miles since the last oil change, the oil level is almost at the bottom of the glass.? I added enough oil to bring the level back to t...

Re: Screw in my tire
I did get a tire fixed as described by you and drove the tire for another 4,000 miles without any problems and absolutely no leak. In my opinion if the screw/nail is toward the center of the tire it can be fixed without any problem. Obviously if the tire is towards the end of its usefullness a new t...

Somebody mentioned to me that the LED taillight of the new K1300S might fit a R1200R. Any opinions?

Re: Pirelli Scorpion sync tires
Chitown: Thanks for replying and I have purchased a new rear since I agree with you that this is a terrific tire. Yes the pavement, especially furhter west in Texas is rather coarse and heavy load travelling at high speeds does take its toll. I enjoy your reports and picture. Hope you had a good jou...
