Re: Paint job
I would love to see that I'll post up for sure when its done. Its going be the off season project so might be a while.... My 2 year old fell in love with a blue r1200r when I was at the dealership a couple weeks ago getting new tires. He's been jabbering on about "the blue motorcycle" eve...

Paint job
I've been contemplating a paint job on my R1150R for years (along with repairing a ding on the tank). I'm finally getting serious about getting it done this fall when the riding season is over. Toying with the idea of a 2 tone paint job: - Tank and rear side panels in blue. - Oil cooler covers in co...

Re: Help Please! Bike cannot hold idle.
Ok. Hit the bike early this AM. Need to get this sorted out asap. Fired the bike up first thing in the garage; only to see a large puddle of reddish/brown fluid start runnning down the engine on the right side and pooling up in copious amounts below the engine. Steam rising everywhere. Killed the en...

Re: Help Please! Bike cannot hold idle.
Yes Jas, Seepage was from the rubber manifold where it meets the cylinder block. Stick coils were were swapped out about 20K miles ago. I think I should inspect the sparkplugs as jcridge suggests. I did hear a wierd kind of electrical fizzle sound from the left side while starting up her up a few mi...

Help Please! Bike cannot hold idle.
Bike won't idle - Need some help. Leave on Tuesday for a cross country haul. 2004 R1150R, 86K. Had a bit of a seeepage on left side throttle body. Where the rubber gasket meets the engine block. Opened up the intake tract, cleaned and reassembled. Figured I do the other side as well. Bike ran ok but...

A more general question...
Does aggressive down shifting and a bias towards more engine braking in ones riding style contribute to higher than average oil consumption

Re: getting spark plug wires off
I fiddled around with that tool the first time I tried to pull the stick coils and gave up. I just use a screw driver to catch the lip on the head of the stick coil and lever against the valve cover. (rag on the valve cover to protect against nicks)

Changed once at about 40K. Still looks good... I'm gonna pick up some spares to carry regardless so I might as well add this to the pack list just in case. Thanks for the reminder.rdsmith3 wrote:Maybe you mentioned this, but at 72K miles you are due for another poly V belt replacement.

Re: Six years; 72,000 miles
I still love this bike! Even as the years and miles pile on the styling and aesthetics on this bike remain so timeless. I can't see myself ever selling mine.. heck I bought it back when the insurance company totalled it out not too long ago! Battle scars and all she still pulls positive comments - ...

Whoa! Quite the chatter on this thread today, eh? Thanks for the advice, good cheer - And humor too (combustor777)! Roger that on roadside assistance and the anonymous book. I presumed the MOA roadside assistance does not have coverage in Canada - Will look into this. And the Anonymous book... How c...

Would you do it?
Ok this is all very subjective. And maybe I just need to allay some of the fears in the back of my mind. I leave in two weeks for a solo ride - Minneapolis to Nova Scotia by way of New England. Ferry up to Newfoundland and back to Nova Scotia. Make my way back home on the Canadian side... Prince Edw...

Re: Six years; 72,000 miles
Wish mine was that clean! Same vintage (2004/ 2 spark) just clocked 72K a couple weeks back as well -- but a lot more battle scars. When I manage to pick up a cheap ding free tank I'm going to treat her to a real cool paint job... one of these fine days. On the flip side she's been virtually flawles...

Re: Cyclerob - Clutch Spline Greasing?
I'm about to do the same procedure very soon. I have a new (to me-19K miles)drive shaft on the way from a seller in Canada and when that arrives I'm diving in. Hi Boxer, Is this just a preemptive undertaking? How many miles on your bike? How did your FD look when you took it apart? Just curious... ...

Re: Broken steering stop.
I think it happened a while back to another poster on this site and he fixed it by attaching something in place of the broken tab. Did you recover the broken portion? I think is cast aluminum and could be welded back. Was the tank damaged ? as that is the next stop for the handle bar. Hey Boxermani...

Broken steering stop.
Anybody else been down this road? Do options for a serviceable solution exist beyond either replacing or removing/repairing the frame. Like bolting on something that could function as a stop... what do I know, I'm just a lowly software engineer who enjoys a good hack ;-) http://farm4.static.flickr.c...
