I think the Rockster (and the R for that matter too) were panned because the R1150S had 20% more horsepower with a motor that looked identical.
I still feel a little cheated about that

My 04 R just celebrated it's 15th year.... and I thought it was time for a new bike..... can't do it.

To squeegee the third eye, i.e. disconnect from it all.

Re: Sargent seat, how much rise from original?
Nope. That seat is so well made, after a decade of my big butt it's the same as it was when I got it, and I got mine USED.

Re: Access to battery terminals? USB outlet wiring & mounting.
Unfortunately, sweatmark is correct. Tank removal will be required. without a doubt, the most annoying thing about this bike is the battery, and it's location. After a lifetime of Honda's, I could not get my head around BMW's design decision to hide the battery like this. I have a jump start battery...

Re: Sargent seat, how much rise from original?
The factory seat can be a real jewel breaker on hard braking, and long hours in the saddle. The Sargent seat is wider, but not all that much taller. The wideness of the seat makes planting the feet farther way from the pavement. Also creates a lot more comfort. The Stock seat is a 150 mile seat, i.e...

Re: Oil on the exhaust cannister
Disclaimer: I am not a mechanic! So I don't have those eyes! I took the bike to Roland and The Spare Parts Company in Philly, and it turns out, the front top gear oil filler plug lost it's torque, and was weeping at high RPM. The weep was so light, the gear oil was not visible on the drive case itse...

Re: Oil on the exhaust cannister
Thanks again all! It appears it is engine oil, not gear oil. and it's only on the right side of the underside canister, the left side is sparkling clean. looks like I got a crushed drain line on the right side of the case, where the clip that ties it to the case is. It appears to be just old, and ra...

Re: Oil on the exhaust cannister
thanks all. The bike was full serviced in April, and I check the sight glass before each ride, and it's always at 50% level. I have added no oil to the bike, and this season's miles are lower due to the enormous amount of rain here in the east. It's stopped drinking oil about 20k miles ago, it has 5...

Oil on the exhaust cannister
Hi, After a vigorous 75 mile ride Sunday (afternoon was hot, but lots of RPM anyway), I got off my bike with a cloud of smoke coming off the exhaust canister under the bike. Fluid from somewhere was on the hot exhaust. The bike has no spots under it when parked, so I can't find any drips. Seems it h...

Re: Smart turn system
I am on my 2nd Kisan SM-5 in 13 years. FYI: when you replace the OEM turn signal unit with the SM-5, store the OEM unit under your seat. Years ago, my first Kisan SM-5 shorted out and had to ride home several hundred miles from a rally, with no turn signals. My son, who was following me (just got hi...

Re: Advice please! On 2004 R1150R
lol, that is funny. I remember the theories way back when that someone asserted that all the bikes with final drive issues were assembled on Fridays. That theory actually got internet legs. I got a different theory, from a BMW Tech at the time: Bikes with drive failures are usually self serviced bik...

Re: Advice please! On 2004 R1150R
Hi, You do not mention if the bike has ABS. Which will affect the value somewhat. 2004 had both models for sale, with, and without, and the ABS models were more money. (at least 500 more but my memory fades, as I own a 2004 non ABS model, purchased new in August 2003.) 15k mikes is LOW. Bike is bare...
