I'd also be worried about diverting air flow.
Anyone got wind tunnel experience?

So far I've just sprayed my coolers with Autoglym bike cleaner then reversed flushed with a garden hose. Seems to work OK.

The dangers of filtering , which I do regularly, are readily illustrated.Last Saturday a colleague was on her Suzuki 650SV filtering to turn right ,in UK. Unfortunately a car that had been queuing to go straight on, decided to turn right as she was alongside. Hit her foot and side of bike. Result wa...

Emergency brake?
I guess that you have an automatic gearbox and have a different car driving technique to most of us in the UK , who usually have manual gear boxes and a hand-brake. And hills!

On my UK R1150R the mudguard can be simply slid up, after loosening a little screw, so only the reflector is visible below the number plate. Still rather keep both feet on the ground with such a heavy bike. I agree a repeated start on a long hill would not be much fun. Aren't you allowed ...

Not sure why you would want to use the rear brake under these circumstances. I'd want to keep both feet down. Can't see the problem pulling away when using the front lever. Roll the throttle open with the palm of your hand engage the clutch and when it bites release the brake. Works for me on my Road...

My Mez04s also wore out in around 4000miles, down to UK legal limit in the centre , front and back. They were following road grooves and white lining so I replaced them. Local BMW dealer recommended Bridgestone Battlax BT020, IIRC. Seem OK so far, but no idea if they have the dual compound construct...
