Re: Another entry in the Windshield wars..

Okay, we modified the BMW touring bracket. The loop on the bottom was trimmed off and replaced with a longer loop. This raked the screen back by 10 degrees BUT we ended up with a much larger gap by the headlight. Test results with CB 16" were disappointing. The airflow is different and perhaps ...

Re: Another entry in the Windshield wars..

Someone here was looking into getting a custom bracket made for it.. who was that again? Yup, that was me. Some local guy is a super genius welder and we're gonna trim the mounting tabs off the OEM bracket then attach a longer one down low and shorten the upper two thus doing two things: leaning th...

It would work great for that purpose but you'd be a little squished unless you changed the set. Also a bit expensive depending on what you're gonna use it for...

Re: Off topic alert! Bought wife '09 F650GS - anybody ride one?

I just rode one yesterday. It is in my garage right now. Loaner from dealer. REALLY easy to ride. Light and certainly not overpowered. Brakes work but not like the R12R. Low first gear ratio makes starting off real easy and low speed manuevers are no problem.

vs. GT

While my bike was being serviced at the dealer I took a new K1300GT for a ride down the freeway. Really ridiculous level of power and incredibly smooth acceleration, no sense of speed at all except the other cars on the freeway were suddenly barely moving. ESA on soft smoothed out any freeway bump-d...
I'm off to ride in the MotoGiro USA - three days on a 125cc riding over muddy roads, should be fun.
Now THAT sounds like a lot more fun than this 'character-building' work that I have to do. Wrong side of the country and I don't have a vintage dirt bike but if, if, if, I'd be there...

I went with the other ones by MV. Much more $$$ but TUV approved and I liked the look. Greatly improved my position on the bike.

Re: Windshield noise

I very much like your report of no noise at big speeds. Can you tell us the angle of the windshield from the vertical? It is a bit of a hassle to measure, you pretty much need an assistant to check it after you are aboard. I made a protractor work with a piece of string and a small bolt for the weig...

Don, you've posted some good ones, but that was one of my favorites. Instant removal of someone from my little universe. I just wish it was that easy with some of the people at work

Re: How do you lock a helmet on the R12R?

I set my helmet on the mirror, place my armor jacket on the seat/tank, and run a Kryptonite cable thru the jacket & helmet as well as the top of the forks and the rear framework near the passenger footpegs. Boots and armor pants go in the topbox. I suppose 'they' could steal my face shield off t...

Hey Ron, they look good and sounds like they work well but you're killing all of us wage-slaves with your ride report from Wednesday morning in the mountains while we've got our noses to the grindstone down in the salt mines :D :D :D :D I know you probably told us but I didn't see it, do those mirro...

Re: Windshield noise

I mentioned previously that I was looking for someone to modify the windscreen bracket. I met with a guy this afternoon that does metal fabrication for high-end race vehicles. He came highly recommended by someone who should know :-k and he has a backlog of over two months. After describing what I w...

Re: Why the R1200R?

In addition to the reasons given above, the light weight was a big factor, the lack of engine heat acting like a bbq on my body in the summer was a big deal, the superb fuel injection mapping was also a plus.

Hey Don,
I know this is completely off topic, but I remember your photos of the LumaLink mounts for your TT lights that you developed with James Gordy. Did you ever mount them on the bike and if so, can you give us a pic when you're doing the GPS pic?

Re: To all the windshield Guru

Since I got zero interest in my effort to sell the tall Parabellum, I'm going to cut it down to about 15" and then compare with the CB 16". My intention is to protect the surface with some blue tape then just cut the same profile with a power scroll saw. Anybody here have any experience cu...
