Mity Vac and ABS?

Post by Optimus Prime »

After reading through the ABS brake bleeding write-up I'm wondering if it's possible to use the Mity Vac. At first I didn't think it'd be a problem, but now I'm starting to wonder.

Does it work or does the servo-assist / ABS foul it up.

TIA

After some looking around it seems that the Mity Vac and ABS aren't such a good idea. I found some wonderful write-ups over at bmwsporttouring.com

Any of you wrench-monkies got a problem with these write-ups? If not then I'll prolly try to follow them pretty closely.

Au contraire.

My conclusion is different. Mityvac looks spot on for the control circuit bleeding. Much easier to crack open a control bleed valve and draw fluid through by vacuum than pumping the brake lever(s).

Same is true for the clutch.

I would agree that it has no role in the braking circuit where you can use the benefit of the built in pump.

specific instructions at training is no vacuum bleeders on integral systems.

but, it's your bike and you can do as you wish. i don't dare try it as if it does cause a problem and it gets back to them or then i have to ask for help i'll get the attitude.
