If you're like me and repetitively push the indicator cancel button..just to make sure it's not been left blinking..maybe it's not such a good idea.

My indicators have started doing strange things..either can't cancel or can't start them blinking..I figured either indicator relay or indicator switch.

Both cost about $200 down under and that's without labour..I think I've narrowed it down to a faulty cancel button..intermitantly not working..worn out?

After 4 1/2 yrs of riding every day..city riding with continued turning and indicating..and bright sunlight make it hard to see if the green lights flashing.

It's become a habit now to keep hitting that cancel button..I think I've worn it out..but you can't just buy the button..you have to buy the whole switch assembly.

Has anyone else had this problem..anyone have a solution or ideas.

thanks

The Kissan Signal Minder does not need the cancel button. You cancel your indicators with a second push of the appropriate paddle. You also have self cancelling after a pre determined number of flashes and can use the indicators as running lights. UK price around £70 and its easy to fit as it simply replaces the original flasher relay.

Thanks guys..but I can't buy them down under..is there anyone in particular that I should order from..and which model.

I think I remember seeing here some time back that there's a new model.

How hard are they to install..where does it plug in..do I need to cut wires?

It might be a cheaper option.

DJ - I have the same habit!

I have put off the signal minder, but at those replacement costs, I either need to change my habits or rethink the signalminder! :?

I welcomed a new member this week with the advice that this forum would make him think of all sorts of ways to spend $$ on the bike. This is a prime example! :P

Is there a way to fix this problem without replacing the $200 part with oem or aftermarket?

DJ,

I just installed the Signal Minder on my bike last week. It was very easy, about a 20 minute job. No wire cutting, just unplug a relay control in the fuse box and replace with the Signal Minder. It also has a neat feature where you can have the turn signals be on as running lights. Bike looks way cool. :D

If you do web search for Kisan Signal Minder you'll find a lot of places to buy it.

Hope this helps.

DJ,

The signal minder you need is the SM-5. It replaces the Bosch flasher unit in your fuse box. The wiring harness has a 90 degree plug connector. To release the connector you have to press in directly on the end to release a U shaped clip that works to eject the plug from the relay. Once removed, you can feed the harness under the middle section of the box so that you can put the signal minder in the empty slot on the opposite side. A velcro square is included to hold it in place.

The brake light wiring tap is included and you clip the T connector onto the gray wire with the yellow stripe in the wiring bundle under the fuse box. That is hardest part of the install.

There are 4 screws to release the top of the fuse box. The fuse block itself can be removed from the housing but it comes out the bottom. You have to spread the clips that hold it on each side then push the fuse block down. That's as far as I've gotten to installing my brake line tap.

DJ,

Thats so wierd, about a week ago my cancel button stopped springing back to its normal position.

I also have a habit of hitting it "just to make sure", & now, because its not springing back all the time, if the cancel button is in the "pushed" position, the turn signals don't work.

After riding my bike for 2 years I was really getting into the switch gear mastery on the freeway of turn signal on, look back, change lanes, cancel, turn signal on, look back .... as I cruise through the cages.

I now have the nervouse habit of hitting the otherside of the cancel button to manually set it back to its normal position so the indicators work.

You'd think if BMW was going to have such wierd switch gear they at least would make it bomb proof. What would DR. ABS say? Must be a BMW conspiracy. The bikes not safe! Oh My, what am I to do????

DJ,

You may be interested in another product from Kisan since you're putting an order together. Last week I bought the Tailblazer along with the Signal Minder. This install is too easy; just remove your brake/taillight bulb and replace it with this. That is, if your bike is non ABS. If it's ABS, you have to do more work by splicing the circuit so the ABS system doesn't get confused.
When you hit your brakes the brake flashes for 4 seconds and then stays on like usual. Nice attention getter. The bulb they use is a halogen so it's also brighter. The model is 10W-D.

I had this problem a couple of months ago. The issue was the wires around the head stock. If they have been installed with too little slack in the system they chafe and brake. Mine was replaced under warenty. So don't go paying out for the switches just yet.

That SM 5 is the single best upgrade I have made to this bike. Its what should have been standard equipment, but wasn't. Now the cancel switch only gets used when I want to change from bright to medium to low running lights.

DJ,

Be prepared to replace the right side switch gear. Mine was replaced last fall after the turn signals and the cancel switch started acting strangely. They would only work intermittently. The SignalMinder won't solve that problem.

The switch gear and wiring harness is a single unit and requires tank removal to attach the harness. Hint: do not tie the wiring harness so that it is forced to repeatedly and severely bend at a single spot when the handlebars are turned. Good luck with your repair.
