Post by sjbmw »

FYI:

BMW K1200R Recall Notice

Sunday, October 07, 2007

BMW of North America filed a recall notice with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration last month regarding brake fluid foaming in the reservoir...

Make / Models / Model/Build Years:
BMW / K1200 R SPORT / 2005-2007

Manufacturer : BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 07V466000

Mfr's Report Date : SEP 21, 2007

Component: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FLUID

Potential Number Of Units Affected : 510

Summary: ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, DURING LONG PERIODS OF RIDING AT SUSTAINED HIGH ENGINE RPM, VIBRATION WITHIN THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR CAN CAUSE THE BRAKE FLUID TO FOAM. THIS COULD ALLOW AIR TO ENTER THE FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM WHICH COULD LEAD TO A LOSS OF FRONT BRAKING EFFICIENCY.

Consequence: AIR IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM CAN LEAD TO A LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL BLEED THE FRONT BRAKES AND INSTALL A DAMPER WEIGHT IN THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. THIS WEIGHT WILL DAMPEN POSSIBLE VIBRATIONS THAT CAN CAUSE FOAMING OF THE BRAKE FLUID. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING OCTOBER 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-831-1117.

Man....there must be some serious high frequency vibrations going on in the M/C to aerate the fluid......air in the lines.....not good.
