K1200R exhaust (slip on suggestions?)

Hey everyone, havent posted in a while due to a couple limbs not functioning... laid my beast down is a really stupid skid out that turned into a highside... oh well I guess $%it happens and I am missing the best riding of the year in the NE. I am getting the insurance to put her back up not alot of damage to the bike I seem to have taken the brunt of it. I was wondering, I am looking to get an aftermarket exhaust (due to factory costing $1300) and would like some suggestions as to what to look at. I have heard several of the aftermarkets where causing havok in the system in general and was hoping u guys could point me towards a setup that hasnt caused any issues with the bike. Any help greatly appreciated, Doc says 3-4 weeks, BMW mechanic says maybe 2, it will be tough having her back and just looking at her!!!

Sorry to hear about your mishap.
I have a Remus slip on and had no issues over 15,000 miles. Replaced the stock airfilter with an aftermarket (blue) which smoothed the engine a bit in low RPM especially arround town.

Yes..that's a bugger about your high side.

have you considered buying a used stock exhaust setup. I bet there are plenty almost new, stock exhausts sitting in garages.... Personally, i like the cat/can combo. The stock sound is very nice and the cat is a good thing for obvious reasons!

thanks for all the replys, I am really considering the leo vince, I have thought about trying to find a stock set up, I really like the look also, and the sound is nice. But I was thinking of geting something that had a bit more growl. Ay ideas where I might be able to locate a stock set up? and what I might expect for price? Thanks Brian

Here's a few pics that I've taken during my lust for a KR.

I saw this just the other day....mmm...nice carbon 'Akaapovic'

I saw this at the Moto Gp last year..I like the small size and shape of the 'Lazer' Power Cup can.

I saw this at my dealer a while ago..another Lazer and liked the cover that blends the can into the pipe..it's also like a heat guard.

Here's the 'Leo Vince'...check out the paint..

Even the carbon 'Remus' looked great...I saw this last week at my dealer.

It's going to be a tough choice.

Brian, regarding the stock setup, I was just thinking I would put the word out in the buy and sell of this site. Also, I am assuming you already know about K bikes http://www.k-bikes.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=91
Putting the word out there could be good also. It seems like there are alot of K12r owners on that site who have switched to aftermarket pipes and may want to sell the stock.

Either way, glad to hear you didn't get to banged up! Were you able to walk away? You mentioned the bike not getting to much damage. Did the stock slider do its job or do you have some aftermarket protection? Just curious

I "walked" away with a pretty serious limp.

. HAHA suppose to go to a specialist this week but other than that I turned out pretty well aside for the usual areas where my coat moved and my skin took some beautiful asphalt mix. As far as the stock sliders go they worked to protect the frame like a champ, however the gearbox/tranny cover is wrecked and will have to be drilled out due to at least 3 heads of the fasteners being completely worn off, the cluch cable cover looks like a belt sander laced with steal shot hit it and my exhaust looks like someone took a 9 iron to it and polished it with a studded tire. leaking some fluid from the gear box area where the cover must have cracked. but the rest of the motor is a o k. Thanks for the heads up where to look for the stock set up, been on K-bikes for a while, you might see a duplicate post for this exact topic over there, I will aslo check out he area here I had thought it was just for R bikes so didnt look. , I would recommend either the slider kit from San Jose BMW, or the R & G extened sliders, I havent chosen which I will get yet but rest assured they will be a very good investment, although I dont plan on doing this again....

will be ordering some sliders as soon as my insurance gets squared away. there is no such thing as too safe!!!!
