Loose rear indicator

Post by AdrianS »

How do you tighten a loose rear indicator assembly?

It looks like the rear mudguard needs removing but I cannot find all the fixings for it.

Any advice would be welcome!

Cheers Adrian.

Okay, this is if the stalk is loose at the bike
You have to remove the following things, kinda in this order:
both seats
colored side-panels
brake light (just unscrew the two screws and let it hang by the cord for a bit)

Now there are a bunch of screws that hold the entire rear-tail assembly onto the bike. you have to take them all out and try to remember where they went so you can put them back. Don't forget the two under the tail section (located in the mud-spray area above the tire), the one under the brake light, and there are two under where the body panels are. Once you have the screws out, carefully pull the rear section off, disconnect the rear wiring harness, and remove the tail from the bike. Turn it upside-down and you'll see the nuts that hold the indicators on.

If only the body (where the bulb is) is loose then do the following:

Remove the lens cover by removing the singe screw in the back of the housing.
tighten the two screws inside that hold the clamp over the stalk.
there's probably some torque setting, but just tighten them down really good and they'll be fine

I hope that helps.

I knew I forgot to mention that luggage racks. It really is a pain in the hind-quarters. Just wait til you have to change the license plate light. Same procedure, all over again, plus a few extra bits and pieces.

While the bike looks nice, i hate how complicated it is to work on the simplest things. Then again, its painfully simple to do what is normally a much more arduous task, like adjusting the valves.

Wouldn't you just love to meet the people who:

> designed the R1150R rear subframe/bodywork/fasteners;
> specified wire harness zip-ties;
> selected the corrosion-resistant Rockster paint;
> performed comprehensive testing on the fuel lines, clamps, and quick-connects;
> grabbed randomly from the parts bin for final drives shims;

> AND of course, carefully engineered and durability-tested the dry clutch/transmission spline shaft assembly?

OK - that's it. BMW Motorrad is now off my Christmas card list.

aaaahhhhh c'mon sweatmark. Be nice to these guys. There are so many beemers drivin around and most of'em without any probs. Sure in a forum like this one problems look like the beemers are a sheer misery. But considering the sheer number ridin without failure the numbers having probs are just a small fraction. If the probs were a serious issue (in comparison to the numbers sold and in comparison to the other manufacturers) BMW would have long gone bust. Don't ya think so?

Hence put the thing back on ya xmas list. Ya chances of gettin wrong are slim!
