The installation is quite easy. The only 'special' tool needed is a 1/8 - 27 NPT tap for mounting the sender. Here's a picture of the clock and the gauge. I removed the rubber ring from the clock and placed it on the gauge. I didn't use the old mount on the back of the clock to mount the gauge. This VDO gauge has a mounting ring which made the mounting easy.

This shows the gauge wired and ready to install. I used a couple of short pieces of wire to jumper one side of the light to the positive terminal on the gauge, then pig-tailed out to connect to the old clock's wiring. I did the same for the other side of the light and ground. All the connections are soldered and insulated with heat shrink tubing. The long black wire is for the sender.

Here's the gauge installed in the instrument cluster using the mounting ring. The positive and ground wires are connected. I taped off the un-switched power connection that had been used by the clock. The ring mount worked perfectly. I did have to use part of the old mount just to hold the torx screw plate back in place.

And, the front view. This gauge has a black front mounting ring. From what I understand, they also can do chrome.

I didn't take any pictures of the sender. The details of mounting the sender are in web page jabrooks created. There wasn't much to it; tap the hole and screw it in. I did put some heat sink compound on the end of the sender in an effort to ensure a good thermal bonding. Once I had everything back together, I took it out for a ride. Just a short ride because it was horribly windy here today and a bit cool. The gauge appears to have a bit of moisture behind the glass. I'm sure that will clear up after a sunny day of riding. The gauge worked great. The temperature runs just over 200 degrees. It will be interesting to see the difference in highway and stop and go driving.
