Aerostich

Post by 12bar1 »

My one piece Aerostich Roadcrafter arrived today :D so I thought I would take it out for a spin and see how it works in the heat. Today it is about 91ºF with around 85%RH and winds gusting to 30 mph. I rode with the back & underarm vents open and the top was unzipped about half way. I got plenty of air on my upper body and from what I can tell it is not going to be much hotter if any than my Kilimanjaro air jacket in the same conditions. My only question is how long will it take to break this thing in it is a little on the stiff side.

Break-in

Post by pjbmw »

A few thousand miles and a washing/drying/scotchguard cycle should do the trick. If you hide behind a windshield it is slightly longer :P

I have had several Roadcrafters over the years, great suits, and lots better after a few thousand miles. My only complaint is they are a little better suited for a Northern climate, in the hot summer months in the Southeast I have found more use out of the lighter BMW pants and jackets. But you will like it a bunch more after it breaks in........be safe

Aerostitch makes a heckuva product line, but they're just too hot for me. I live in the Dallas area and during this time of year I rarely wear more than a t-shirt and jeans.

If I were you (and I'm not) I'd make a point to take a ride over to Shallowater, TX and purchase a vented jacket and pants set, or at least a mesh jacket at NewEnough...

I have become a firm believer in the mesh stuff this summer.. Any breeze at all feels great.

Also, the Aerostich Darien jacket vents better than one might think..
I've got a First Gear Mesh Tex II. Love it. And you're right... it lets a lot of breeze through. But at 105 degrees its still uncomfortable to have draped around me. When the temperature breaks to the low 90s I'll wear it more often.

Hot Weather and the Stitch

Post by 12bar1 »

I went for a more extended ride today to check out the beach and the new suit. It really was no hotter than my Firstgear mesh jacket and by opening or closing the vents I could direct the air to where it did the most good. If it gets much over 95ºF I will probablly switch back to the mesh but below that I will wear the Stich. Most of my weekly riding takes place before 8:00 A.M. and after 5:00 P.M. so the suit should work out well it's not too hot in the morning and in the evening it usually rains and now I don't have carry a rain suit. :D
