Paint job

Postby two wheel tango » Fri Aug 05, 2016 11:33 am

I've been contemplating a paint job on my R1150R for years (along with repairing a ding on the tank). I'm finally getting serious about getting it done this fall when the riding season is over.

Toying with the idea of a 2 tone paint job:
- Tank and rear side panels in blue.
- Oil cooler covers in contrast; white.
- Beak also in blue. (considered going 2 tone on the beak too - but maybe too much)

Scoping out colors on cars I can easily go check out and hopefully just get the shop to match the paint codes. Haven't nailed down the final color scheme yet - Open to ideas. Been playing with the build your simulator for bmw cars and a mediterranean blue metallic with a mineral white metallic contrast is my current thinking.

In the end it will be my call. But I reckon if you're on this forum we probably share one in thing in common - We often find ourselves staring fondly at this bike :) As such you probably have well developed opinions on its aesthetics... I'm just looking for other ideas and opinions.

Ps. I did manage to get my hands on a pair of oem tank decals several years ago. They'll be going on with the paint job too.

I'll post up for sure when its done. Its going be the off season project so might be a while....

My 2 year old fell in love with a blue r1200r when I was at the dealership a couple weeks ago getting new tires. He's been jabbering on about "the blue motorcycle" ever since. It informs my color choice now.... I was thinking red, before :)
