Yes, Another ABS question

Hi,

The servo activates on the front, but not the rear.

I swapped the relays around to see if the one clicking was bad. Same result. Also can hear a click at the servo when engaging the rear brake.

Beyond that I am lost.

Do I just go ahead and do the ABS delete? Or is there some simple solution to this one?

SIDENOTE : I just changed the pads. The rear was worn un even, inner pad was down to the nubbins, and the other one approx one third. Fronts had easy 75% left.. I switched em out anyways because I bought them. But the ABS issue was there prior to changing pads

Do you mean stepping on the rear brake pedal ONLY you get no servo assist sound?

ABS warning lights tell you anything during or after self test at startup?
Does brake light come on when you put your foot on the pedal? Faulty switch?

left light stays on, and the right light blinks super fast

brake lights work

i don't think switch is faulty because i can hear a connection at the servo when i press the brake pedal. you can hear a click

That's consistent with your statement that the brake pedal doesn't activate the electric power brakes / iABS systeem. One of the two systems is not passing the start up self test and is in residual mode, as BMW states in de manual on page 77.

Thought I read somewhere that the electronic power brakes have two relays (front and rear system) and two electric pumps for front and rear system.
If my assumption is correct : seems the pump for the electronic powered rear brake is failing.
Bad news is, the entire electronic brakes and iABS is one big block.

You do know that you don't need to hit the rear brake when stopping don't you? It's a linked system.

I'll admit it's been so long since I pulled my system that I've forgotten if the servo came on with just rear brake. I do remember that I went thru two sets of rear pads plus a rotor in 18K before I realized I didn't need to hit the rear brake along with front.

I changed the pads, made sure theres no bubbles in the system, brake switch adjusted correctly and functioning (brake light illuminates, can here a click at the brake brick when mashing the peddle, just no servo), battery fully charged up on the tender.

Guess its time for a delete. I wish that guys superb write up still had photos.

I may be tripping but I swear Chris Harris had a video on his channel. I looked through all the videos twice, and may have missed it, but cannot find.

Anyone got a link to that (if it exists outside of my mind)

If your R1150R is a Roadster, then the iABS removal is easy.

thanks for the links.

i saw a post on uk ukgser where you do not need any parts by spinning the front coupler, and doing some simple rewiring.

conclusion:

last friday week i pulled up to grab a brisket sammich and a huge puff of smoke, over five feet spherical bloom billowed from the motor. This caused a rather hasty exit at i thought that i may catch fire with the bike. The cloud dissapated immediately, and upon further inspection i noticed some fluid at the left front caliper. Another quick squeeze with the key on confirmed a blown out brake hose, as another ploom of acrid smoke appeared and dissapeared.


Found some cheapo ss brakelines and was going to just replace the one at the front because i was gripped with fear about rewiring (as i always am with electrical conundrums)

I grabbed my scrotum and went for the ABSectomy with out buying any parts as listed above. The only thing different was no modification to any wiring by just drilling off the control panel from the ABS block, sealing it, and plugging back into the bike.

All brakes in good working order, all lights good. Removed the ABS relay, and the left hand flashing bulb from the dash.

Done and done
