The subject line says it all. Both are 2004 models.

No.

The RT luggage rack isn't directly compatible.

However...... if you're inclined - it's possible to make up a pair of plates to accommodate the RT rack.
See here : https://flic.kr/s/aHsjUESELe

Bear in mind though - that the RT TopBox is NOT as large as it might look (I could only fit my Arai helmet in by lying the helmet sideways and then pushing down hard on the box lid to get the latch in place). The box is a funny shape underneath. Note how the rack doesn't sit "flat" but is angled backwards, so the topbox is reduced in volume on the underside to then make the box sit "flat" when on the RT. On the R/Rockster you can't get the rack to quite the same angle* so the box is tilted forwards somewhat. I quite liked the way it looked, but the impracticalness of the box itself made me go back to my knackered old Givi.

* well - you could - but it would look pretty odd when the box is off.

So am I correct to assume that I'd also need the left & right side-rails, (case mounts), to attach a BMW rear rack?

To attach the silver painted plastic OE R1150R/Rockster/K1200RS-SE rack - yes, you need the curvy pannier rails - the rack mounts directly to the pannier rails (just above the pillion grab handles) and nothing else.

If you decide to use another topcase and rack instead, you still need the left and right panniers mounts.
I bought a givi Givi SR683 topcase rack like this (not my bike)

On the road with panniers and Kappa topcase it looks like this (my bike)

Thanks EasyBee. Nice looking bike, is that a Sargent seat? How do you like it? I'm thinking about getting one.

Hey Barista, it's a Bagster seat and I like it, better than the original BMW seat.

If you look at the title of the thread, there is a small arrow in a box facing down that takes you to the first new post in the thread.

I have good picture of my Sargent saddle, but am not able to post it on this forum.
