Replacement handgrips from China?

Post by towerworker »

Anyone ever replaced their worn out grips from ones like these?

https://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Handl ... hand+grips

Look identical but from China (not necessarily a problem). But wondering if they're worth a shot.

Never mind....found some from Germany that I can get quickly. I think made in Italy and probably the ones BMW buys. I should have looked further before posting this question.

I think the originals were made by Ariete. I got mine on eBay- $31 shipped from Germany. They arrived quickly and fit well.

Just replaced mine with Ariete. Just be careful cutting old ones off, then need to trim the plastic tabs off the ends of the grip heaters to slide the Arietes on using hair spray.

I meant to report back. I bought the Ariete as well. Fit exactly as they should. I had an inoperable left heater for a couple years. This was the time to troubleshoot and repair. Found a burnt in two element about 1.5" into the heater coil. Easily repaired with a soldering iron. In the process of "carefully" cutting the right grip off (not careful enough!) I nicked the element and had to repair that one as well. It all went back together properly, then took an infrared thermometer and measured 125°+/-2° on the grip surface.

Strangely enough I’ve recently done the ‘grip’ job too. The owner before me had some strange ugly frayed grips on it so they had to go. Luckily he did all the donkey work in removing the original bonded ones but I’m not sure I was that lucky to repair his ‘repair’. I replaced with bmw matching grips (Not from China) although there’s a little ‘body rattle’ on one of the grips.

The Ariete have been perfect. I'm glad I spent a little bit more $$.

Same here. They appear to be OEM and of good quality.
