Flat Towing-

Post by omoore3 »

Will towing with one of those brackets which holds the front wheel off the ground damage the trans?

Not the transmission, but I read there is a press-fit (Morse-taper?) joint in the drive shaft that can come apart, so towing with the rear wheel on the ground is not advised. Can anyone corroborate this? This might have only applied to Airheads...

The u's are staked in their yokes and the two halves just slide together on splines. Really can't come apart when installed.
Don't think it would hurt anything, but having said that I never really liked those tow methods. Not sure how the air head works as I never had mine apart(r90 and r80gs) Never seen one towed that way as I recall.
