Front Shock Cover
Just wondering if anyone has put a Neoprene wrap/cover on their front Shock?
Seems like a good idea to keep the crud off the shaft. I use them on my mountain bike shock and forks. Also on the Sertao rear Shock with no issues. I suppose heat build up may be a concern. The 2002 has such low miles I’d like do this sooner than later.
Thanks !

Re: Front Shock Cover
No! But good idea!
Re: Front Shock Cover
I looked into this a while ago and found some gators that were split but didn't think they'd fit. After thousands of road miles I haven't noticed much pitting on the shafts, probably since they are at the top of the forks and less likely to be struck by stones, etc.

Re: Front Shock Cover
Well most Neoprene cover are longer than the 11 inch length/2 1/2" Dia. required.
I did find this HD Nylon cover on Amazon for under $10. Hoping the print is only on one side

Like the fork tubes it would be nice to keep the grime and Bugs off the shaft.
I will update on fitment when I get it. No test rides on the Tundra....yet.

Re: Front Shock Cover
I received the front Shock cover. Easy 5 minute install. there good sized breather holes on the back side. We shall see how it holds up.
Also got the used 2004 SS braided brake lines and Hella Horn upgrade done....since they are in the pictures.

Re: Front Shock Cover
I have had Ohlins on my rockster since new and they have been rebuilt about 7 or 8 times and I have never had to replace a shaft on either.
No unusual maintence has ever been applied. I like to be able to keep an eye on the shaft for any signs of leaking.

The links to google photos do not work. "Error 404, URL link not found on this server".
@Kirby
I suppose the covers are for the 2 front legs https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpa ... Id=31_0337 and not the front spring/shock https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpa ... Id=31_0532.

Re: Front Shock Cover
Yes,
My point is that he wants these covers for protection of the shock shafts. They really don't need protection in my experience. So if you install covers then you have collected more "crud" all over the covers?!
Ugh!

Re: Front Shock Cover
Shocks (Front) and Forks get bugs, road grime etc. on the shafts/tubes. This accelerates wear on the seals in place to keep the internals and fluid from getting contaminated. As stated, I use and have used shock covers and fork protectors with no issues. If you don't see the need, by all means don't apply them.kirby wrote:I have had Ohlins on my rockster since new and they have been rebuilt about 7 or 8 times and I have never had to replace a shaft on either.

Yes quite right, by all means.
And no I don't see the need, thought I made that clear.

Re: Front Shock Cover
Never had an issue with the shafts, or seals on the shocks on the R1150R(even riding it on dirt and gravel roads
