Soon to be owner of an '08 R1200R

My first post in the 1200 forum, a former R1150R owner, soon to be an R1200R owner it looks like! I've been lusting after one for a good while now!

I sold my '02 R1150R a little while ago and have been shopping around for an R1200R since. Today, I see an '08 model , 65xx miles, with all the factory goodies (ABS, Automatic Stability Control, etc etc) on Craigslist. In the best color, black. The guy wants $8600 which to me seems like a hell of a deal.

What do you guys think? Worth it?

I think so. I'm buying it. This coming weekend. We drove over tonight and I took it for a little test ride, though I didn't go too far due to darkness and rain. It sounds great with a Remus Hexacone exhaust.

Sounds like a good deal to me.. and you won't have to break it in.. Good luck with it (there was someone about a year ago selling a 2 year old one with > 100k miles on it for around the same $$..)

Looks like a great opportunity to me also,I paid 9k for my '08 R last fall...it had 2775 miles on the clock,but didn't have some of the farkles that this one offers.Mine is one of the 'fast ones" also

He painted the valve covers black? Isn't that code for "I dropped it"? I wouldn't let it bother me, but I would probably paint them silver again.

Yeah I'm not that crazy about the black painted valve covers either. And if I were buying it new, I wouldn't really want all the bells & whistles either, but it seems too good a deal to pass up.

I sure as hell hope he didn't drop it! That didn't occur to me. Bike seems to be in very good condition, if it was dropped he sure fixed it up well. Valve covers didn't seem damaged. Worth a second look though.

Do I spot X-Head valve protectors? If there is damage to the valve covers then it's hidden by the X-Head thingies. He may have just liked the look of the black, but worth asking.

I bought the bike Saturday, found out why it was so cheap: it has a small dent on the tank. I didn't notice it the first time I looked at it (it was dark and raining). Previous owner didn't point it out the first time either, but he did the second, said he didn't notice it until then. Seems kind of hard to believe. Bummer in the summer. Seeing as how the price was so good for an R1200R with only 6800 miles, I bought it anyway, it rides just as good with a dent as without, though I will have to get it fixed up sometime.

I LOVE the bike, except I don't have enough legroom and the stock seat sucks. It has the low seat on it, I will be getting a custom seat made which hopefully will give me more legroom and be more comfortable. Other than that it's by far the nicest bike I've ever ridden, much less owned. It feels so stable, practically corners itself in the twisties, and has so much usable power! And I LOVE the engine sound with the Remus Hexacone can on it.
