Re: New GIVI mounting for 2011 bike
I have V35 & V46 cases on my '09. I'm trading up to an '11. I asked if the old mounting would work and they said no. the reply for the USA was:
"Thank you for contacting GIVI motorcycle accessories. We appreciate the interest you have shown in our products. You will need new hardware. Unfortunately, it is not yet available. SR5100 topcase hardware, PLXR5100 sidecase.
These can be ordered through your local dealer or by contacting us at 1-877-679-448"

Re: New GIVI mounting for 2011 bike
Update: I finally have my new 2011 R1200R. Last night i decided to try & fit V35 & V46 to my new bike using the givi mounts from my 09 R1200R. The side bag mounts transferred perfectly. The 09 Mount for the V46 will bolt right up as well but you have to sacrifice the nice new handle at the back of the passenger pillion or you will have to modify the V46 bracket. It looks possible to cut the forward mounting tabs off the V46 bracket and then drill & tap the middle mount holes that are not used. I can't tell if the very back edge of the handle will stick up too high though. It could be that you might have to minimally dremel off some of the plastic under the top plate. I'm just happy not to have to buy the whole kit again.

UPDATE: Shakey's Cunning Plan ......
You may have notice my slight obsession with finding a neat way to mount my Givi Monokey top boxes to my 2011 bike.
I didn't want to use the universal monokey plate and having seen a generic illustration of the new bike specific rack I felt there was just a little too much "scaffolding" to ruin the elegant lines of the bike.
As mentioned in post 1 above, I have been mulling over a "cunning plan" for quite some time.
Yesterday this plan became reality and is the fruit of joining;
1. Touratech's smart alumin(i)um rack that replaces the plastic BMW trim piece on the factory rack.
2. A set of SW-Motech mountings, ooriginally intended to mount Monokey cases onto their universal quick release pannier and box carriers
Neither SW-Motech, Givi or Touratech were willing to share a dimensioned drawing with me for obvious reasons but Touratech kindly supplied a tracing of the rack so I could check that the holes in it's design were compatible with the spacing of the components.
I got my dimensions by sitting down with the Givi M5 rack from my FJR and a steel ruler. Add a set of HSS drill bits and a set of M6 thread taps...... et voila!

The black items you can see are the SW-Motech kit; the two "mushrooms" that slot into the top box at it's rear edge, four rubber bungs and one block to which the box lock secures.
The Touratech Plate itself is really high quality and comes complete with quality fitting hardware.
I had to cut the tail off the rack as it bends upwards and interferes with the box.
I also wanted to fit nylok backing nuts to the mushrooms but they interfered with the fit of the plate onto the BMW carrier. I may investigate raising the supplied spacers by around 3 mm to see if I can fit these nuts but for the time being I have faith in the M6 threads I cut into the plate given that the box will extert only an upwards pulling force on these.
I'm feeling rather pleased with myself that I finally achieved something I've been thinking about for ages and I'm pleased with how it looks on the bike too.
The box even fits securely.

Oh, and whilst I was in the mood for farkles ..... Shakey's patented (not) High(er) security Ram arm supporting Mk1 Touratech locking mount for the Zumo 660 to a
RAM ball which replaces one of the handlebar mounting bolts. I may yet revert to the Wunderlich carrier but we'll see.

Shakey
what was the part number of the handlebar RAM ball. I ordered one but got it wrong, the bolts were much thinner than the BMW ones.
Thanks

Re: New GIVI mounting for 2011 bike
This may be just what I was looking for. Bought a new R1200R Classic last week (love it!) and am looking for a clean ,elegant way to mount a real-size topbox like my E52.
Is this the part you used - Part Number: 610-0038? Can you share the part numbers for the other stuff you used? Thank you!

This is the rack (UK website) from touratech and the SW Motech kit can be selected here depending on which case type you want to mount. note that you get two sets as they are intended for panniers.

Re: New GIVI mounting for 2011 bike
Thank you sir! Just ordered the SW bits from Twisted Throttle here in the US, and will order the rack later. Very helpful, and a great mod - looking forward to getting this in place on my bike.Shakey wrote:This is the rack (UK website) from touratech and the SW Motech kit can be selected here depending on which case type you want to mount. note that you get two sets as they are intended for panniers.

Re: New GIVI mounting for 2011 bike
Zombie thread revival!
Shakey - how are the threads you cut into the Touratech plate holding up? Were you ever able to sort out using a nut on the bottom instead? Any other issues arisen since you did this?
As I mentioned before, I actually ordered the mounting bits from Twisted Throttle but then got sidetracked and haven't ordered the plate. Thought I'd see if you had anything else to report before I pull the trigger. I'm a bit concerned about the thickness of the plate and the security of the little posts - wondering if the threads will be safe with a passenger leaning on the box, etc.
Thanks!

I have to confess that I haven't yet had the need to ride with a top box fitted to the rack and probably wont until next year (Trip to the German Hartz mountains in the planning).
However, the backing nut issue was nagging in the back of my mind and so I added a set of basic washers (5 off I think - one per fixing) to raise the plate just enough to allow me to fit Nylok nuts to the back of the bobbins. Raising the plate by the thickness of a washer hasn't spoiled the overall look of the thing but the issue isn't bugging me any more
I was also happy to note that when I did the upgrade after approx 500 miles of riding, all the fixing bolts were still tight.
I wouldn't worry about a passenger leaning on the box as any pressure would be downwards and backwards so the rack and the locking block will take the load. There would be no force applied to the bobbins or their threads as far as I can see.
By the way, my RAM GPS mount has now been replaced by the Touratech mount that sits on the four handlebar mount bolts as they now have this specifically for the 2011 bike at about half the price of the BMW item! The GPS (Zumo 660) now sits well away from the tank bag and I can see the screen more clearly.

Re: New GIVI mounting for 2011 bike
Thanks a bunch for the info, much appreciated! I think I'm going to go ahead with it.
Incidentally, I have similar setup up front to what you had before. I've gone through a couple iterations of it, but I now have a ram mount (holding an iPhone running Navigon) and a little plate with two powerlets in it. Everyone that sees it is pretty jazzed about it - soon I'll get around to taking some pics and posting some info.
Thanks again!
