Photon Blaster - Mount on the top fender screw or bottom?
Or somewhere else. I know you guys have opinions...
Also, what's the favorite place to tap for electricity and to stash the control box?
Thanks

I used the bottom screw on the air deflectors on the forks.Anyname wrote:Or somewhere else. ...

I zip-tied the control box to the frame near the rear brake fluid reservoir under the seat, and I tapped the switched wire of the OBC connector near the back -- on my 2009, the switch wire is blue/green.Anyname wrote:Also, what's the favorite place to tap for electricity and to stash the control box?

Any photos of Photon Blaster installations would be much appreciated. I am feeling the need for some conspicuity...

Supposed to be around 70 degrees this weekend in Maryland, so I'll try to take some pictures.

Thanks Bill. It sure isn't 70 here. 30's for a while. Got both bikes out in the two days we hit 50, so that is one ride each for this month.

Re: Photon Blaster - Mount on the top fender screw or bottom

I bought the Photon Blasters a few years ago. The newer version has more LEDs, and they're advertised as brighter. Mine are pretty bright. The headlight high beam is on in the shot above. The new PBs can be programmed to blink with the turn signals. I saw this blinking today in my rearview mirror driving in front of a R1200GS. We were on the way back from a winterization session at the local dealer. (Bought some stuff too big to motor with.) From within a car, it was interesting to see the Photon Blasters in action. The amber color is what makes them stand out. After I installed mine, it seemed as if fewer cars would pull out to turn unexpectedly. As all LEDs, they're bright, most noticeably in sunlight, and I also suspect the delta the additional lighting creates with the single headlight above helps other drivers' depth perception. I think this might be why the lead train has three lights -- to better judge closing distance to the crossing. The Photon Blasters project no light, like 3M reflective tape, but you'd have to be blind to miss them. They also do this flicker thing when you're not looking at them directly. They sip power and have no CANBUS issues. Recommended.

Re: Photon Blaster - Mount on the forks
ditto for me - all my riding friends comment on their visibility in their rear view mirrors. Mounted mine on the fork bolts holding the air deflectors. looks just like websteriflze's. Also recommended.

Hey there. Any chance you could share the photo of the blasters mounted up on here again. Flikr seems to have deleted it. I am interested to see what they look like on the R12R. They sure do seem like a great idea. Many thankswebsterize wrote:![]()

Re: Photon Blaster - Mount on the top fender screw or bottom
I tried to mount the lights on the top fender screw, but the recommended bracket for an R1200R would only fit on the bottom.
I wired the controller to the tail light and the brake light, but that put the controller further back from the lights in the front than the length of the wire. So I had to use some of the extension wire that came with the conspicuity lights and splice it.
