new guy with a top box question

Post by GForman »

i just registered here and thought i would introduce myself. my name is George and i just bought a 2007 R1200R w/66,000 miles on it. this bike will join the two other BMW's i have in the garage, a 2009 G650GS and 2011 F650GS. my new to me R bike came with the BMW factory side cases and the BMW rear rack. i am wanting to use the Givi topbox from my F650GS on the R when i take it to work or when i go on trips. the Givi topbox i have is a V46 monkey. i am having a hard time figuring out what adapter plate i need to use. any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I took the plastic cover off the BMW rear rack and drilled two holes through the remaining plastic to mount the Givi mounting plate. I think I did a little sanding on the bottom of the plate to match it to the BMW rack, but very minor.

It's been on many miles and two parking lot tip overs and never moved. If I want to take the box off I just unbolt the Givi plate, put the silver cover back on and their is no visual evidence that anything was ever there.

I have the Givi E193 adapter on mine. It works well, though it doesn't seem like it is quite as strong as the Givi rack on my GS. Still, it works for what I need, which is to throw my backpack in it for a ride took the office.

It was a bit tricky to figure out how things are supposed to align. I posted a link I used somewhere here on the forum.

I have a 2008 R1200R and I'm going to buy the Givi V46 top case.
I wonder what adapter plate I need to order to be able to attach the Givi V46 top case to my BMW rack.
Will the adaptor plate bolt over the BMW rack after I remove the silver cover that fits over the BMW rack?

Thanks for any help.
