My dealer acknowledged the problem when asked, but no official notice yet.

Dealer service mgr told me this weekend that the delay is to allow sufficient parts (fuel pumps and flange reinforcements) to arrive in The supply pipeline.

Makes sense.

I just received my recall notice in the mail today. Hopefully everyone else will get theirs soon.

Have you checked the letter closely? It could be the notification for the brake line recall 4-5 years ago. :-k

I did check my notice to be certain, but the first statement on the notice was "Fuel pump" in bold black print. I have already talked to the service advisor at the dealership, and I will be taking it in as soon as the ice and snow are off my road; right now, my estimate is the second week of June...

If you're not the first owner how will you be notified? IOW, how will BMW know who to properly contact?

I would imagine if you called a dealer with your VIN number, they would have some procedure to attach your information to the VIN.

The recall notice asks to pass along the information if you have sold the bike to someone else. Additionally, if you get service done, or bought a used bike at a BMW dealer, the information would be on file.

If you look in your owners manual - you'll find a form to send to BMW telling them you're the new owner of the bike. I know that's a radical idea - but there you go.. BTW - you can also call them. Posting it here isn't going to work.

I moved after I bought my 08 and since I've not had it to the local dealer or changed my address with BMW I decided to email Big Sky BMW in Missoula. This morning I sent them my VIN and asked if my bike is part of the fuel pump flange recall, and if so when I could get it taken care of. In less than an hour the Service Manager replied to me and said, "As of right now that recall does not apply to your VIN." He included a PDF file of a document he pulled off of his computer system called a Warranty Vehicle Inquiry. The document was pulled of the system (DAVIS) this morning and provides a listing of all previous campaign codes and descriptions. His answer leaves open the possibility that it could be part of the recall in the future, but I may be reading too much into his choice of words. I'll follow-up with him to be sure.

I was surprised that my bike is not on the recall list and tickled that the Service Manger replied so quickly and provided a copy of the documentation that BMW uses to tell him if the bike needs the recall work performed.

Since there has been a lot of noise about the fuel pump flange leak recall on 2005-2011 R model bikes in the magazines, I called BMW with the VIN's for all 3 of our BMW's. They checked and BMW is not showing any recalls as yet on my VINs. However, SAFERCAR.GOV showed recalls for all 3 of our models. The lady said BMW will send us a recall notice when and if the recall takes place and that they are VIN specific. It is important that BMW has your correct address for all your BMW's. If you have moved you should probably call and update your information. 1-800 525-7417.
