Schuberth C3 vs Caberg Duke

I was looking for a replacement for my Nolan N-102 last year and tried on a Schuberth C3 at the BMW dealer. I really liked it and started looking into it a little more. I came across the Sharp helmet rating web site in the UK: http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/ The Caberg Duke was the only one that was rated Very Good for all five impact zones. I was surprised that the Schuberth was rated next to the bottom in side impacts and only good in the other three (front, top and back). The Caberg is not sold in the U.S. so I ordered it from a place in Italy that had it on sale. It probably took six weeks but it was only $192 with shipping. It's lighter than my N-102 and comparably quiet but has the internal sun screen, which is nice. On the other hand, it's not a Schuberth.

Anyway, I'm curious what people think of the Sharp ratings. It seems like something that would be important in choosing a helmet but I don't think I've ever seen anyone bring it up.

That is really good to know. I have wondered about third party ratings other than Snell. I see from the interweb that Caberg is going to start in the US soon. On my R1200R with a Cee Bailey windscreen, I get more helmet noise in my modular helmet than on my other bike. I was planning to get a Schuberth when 5 years is up on my Schoei next year. Rider magazine said the HJC RPHA Max Modular was one of the most quiet they tested.

One problem you may have is if your European helmet does not have DOT sticker. I don't think it is legal in states with helmet laws. I have seen bikers with toy helmets get cited.

The Skully is cool - I hadn't seen it before. I hope they send one to Sharp although I wouldn't blame them if they didn't want to make that investment.
