2009 R1200R with 49,721 miles for $6995--good deal?
Local dealer has this bike and the 50,000 mile service has been performed with new tires. I am looking for a used bike and was wondering if this is a good deal or what is a fair price? Also, what reliability problems should I expect to encounter. Am planning a 1500 mile trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive(NC and VA) late September, early October and need a reliable bike. Thanks for the info.

No extras are listed in the ad; just the 50k checkup and new tires.

Go on searchtempest.com. You can do a national/regional/local search of craigslist, ebay, Yahoo, etc to see what other individuals and dealers are selling them for.

Thanks for the info; it is helpful but the prices don't seem to be based on the age of the bike. I'm more concerned with the high mileage more than the price and potential reliability and repair/maintenance issues due to the mileage.

As far as reliability concerns - really none if it's OK now. Some bikes experienced failure of the ABS motor. This doesn't disable braking, but it does disable the ABS function. It's repairable by the aftermarket for much less money then BMW wants.
Other then that.. I've had several O2 sensors go (a really crappy idle and some surging are the clue), and then at about 93.500 miles my steering damper sprung a leak. I can report the bike NEEDS a working steering damper. It becomes rather nervous when it isn't up to snuff. The rest of the bike has been pretty much bulletproof. Just completed a 7500 mile cross-country and back trip on it. 1,500 miles on the Blue Ridge and Skyline (are you doing it multiple times?) is a piece of cake. Can't actually remember how many times I've done the BRP on the bike, but it's lots (and about 400 miles for me to get there..) What'cha gonna do the rest of the week?
Price: Since it's a dealer - are they providing any warranty with it? Sidebags (worth $1k new, $500 used)? Suspension goodies? Windshield? Custom seat? Hard to price without knowing those details.
