Went to the dark side...or blue one in my case

Post by daveyator »

Well I haven't posted in a while but still love this forum. After my third R12R I finally got the bike I always ogled from afar as opposed to the minimalist bike I've always had my whole life. My new mistress is a San Marino blue 2015 R1200RT with all the trimmings. I've had the damn thing a day and a half and have ridden 446 miles already. Its the first bike in a long time that actually calls me to ride it. I know you guys feel that way about your R's and I did too at one point but alas I guess I just got tired of wrestling with the seat and the windshield in an otherwise perfect motorcycle. In one swoop the RT solved all those issues for me and added a ton more (not just in weight!). Thanks for all the info and advice I've gotten here. I'll probably still check in from time to time and maybe post in the other BMW bikes area.
I finally got got an RT!

Dave:
The blue and grey 2015 RT is a VERY sharp looking bike. If I was to change bikes right now that is the bike I would get. The only concern that I have is how hot is the bike in the dead of summer? Can you adjust the windshield to get more air when it is hot and less air when it is cold.

Good luck with your new bike. Have fun and be safe.

My wallet is fairly sure it did happen! With windshield at its lowest I get a fair amount of non buffeting helmet air. A quick torso tilt gives a dose of chest air. I spent 2 hours in heavy traffic and 100 degree heat and it really wasn't that bad.

$26650. Keep in mind I got the electrically integrated top case complete with LED brake light and the GPS. The bike by itself is $24000ish OTD. The windshield was one of my biggest gripes with the R. Oh yeah, also includes BMW incentive $1200 off MSRP.
