I read that article and was curious as to why the claimed the bike had "no identity". To me, that would be a slap in the face if I designed that bike. I don't think the GT looks that much different other than it looks like an ST that needs to go on a diet. The front end just "looks" heavy. I do like the bike being fitted with actual system cases rather than those accordian style gray bags they made for the ST.

The GT would be a perfect bike for someone like me who rides in colder climates, solo and prefers lighter better handling, more wind protectio Perfect! =D>

I was so close to getting the F800GT this spring, needed to replace my aging Triumph Sprint ST, well the Triumph is still going strong, Its me thats aging. The GT had the look, weather protection, luggage, everything, but enough seat for me, felt just like the Triumph, sporty but not all day long comfort. I think the 800cc is just the right displacement for my touring needs, was really looking forward to it. Then I sat on the R1200R, that was it, sold, havent looked back yet. I think BMW hit the mark for with the F800GT, just wish the seat was a little wider.

I sat on one over the weekend. Felt like the ST, but I didn't like the bigger tupperware. I didn't know about the possibility of full size bags, and I wonder if those would be retrofitable.

Month of June did 4500 miles on my 2007 R1200R; San Diego to Washington; then ferry, then Anchorage to Dawson, YT; then down all of the Yukon, and all of BC on the Cassiar Hwy; stashed it in friend's garage in Seattle and will pick up in the fall. Used no oil, no flats, no get offs, no tickets.

Speed limit in much of Canada is more or less advisory; saw maybe 3 police cars whole trip; not so in the USA.

Since I left the R1200R in Seattle, I rode my Triumph 800 triple right away; still makes me grin. Read the new Motor Cycle Consumer News re the BMW F800GT; I'm sorry; the BMW 800 motor is no where. I can't understand the money for their 800. Really.

After 4500 miles, a lot of it near triple digits and lots and lots of two lane passing; the R12 has the correct motor. You never know it around town; but you move out to pass in 3rd over the doubles on two lane and hold it open and go to 4th....look out....you're moving. The motor is all there. Just find someplace where you can go to near red line in 2nd, 3rd and hit 4th....as a pal says...keeps the front end light.

I am just wondering(reading your posts in random)why are you focused abouth fuel consumption of your F800???When actually having an"expenciev bike.Personally I own a2012 R1200R my son owes 2011 F800R.Many times switching bikes for driving.Mine consuming 1 liter more fuel/100kms.So what???The R1200R is a lot better in curves.Except for a low -low spead parking lot curving.Definetelly F800 is lighter-at SLOW SPEADS but on the road There is no diference,at least R1200R is actually faster than F800.It's torque at low rpm makes a hughe diference.If you want to keep up with R1200R (driven with no efforts in curves)you should rew up F800.Especially at accellerations out of curves,to have a chance to feel R1200R exhaust fumes.The F800 is definitely a lover capacity bike than R1200R no mather you want to or intend to prove.Probably you are older than I am Cyclerob,scince I am "only"57 years old.Your comparaition of F800 toR1200r us equal to R1200R vs 1000SS.That is the fact. Please convince me if I am wrong.....won't have too much chances for that.F800R is a wery-wery good bike =excellent I am driving it time by time.So,I know that fact.But on long runs,R1200R is better.

If you are buying an expencyve bike BMW,is that M/GAL really matters????

I have to agree with you as far as the Tiger 800 motor.
